So if one person has a grandmother that smoked for 60 years and never got cancer does that mean that smoking doesn't cause cancer just because one person didn't get it?

Just because you personally haven't experienced a disc going bad doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Or I guess I just imagined my Battlestar Galactica DVDs failing me, just like all the other reviews on Amazon are imagining their Battlestar Galactica discs failing them too?

Simple - they were new, they worked - I watched the entire season and they played flawlessly. I put them away for storage. 4 years later I went back to watch some again - the discs wouldn't play - the same DVD player that I used to watch them on wouldn't play them - pixellated, frozen, severe blocking, and unplayable. My PC DVD drive couldn't scan the discs - it said there are many unrecoverable errors. The replacement discs they sent me worked.

But I guess I just imagined all that.

Disc rot is where you can see physical signs of erosion, like this

IMG_4182.jpg

That's what blu-ray disc rot looks like, anything else is not disc rot, it's simply just a faulty disc or player.

Oh geez know your stretching...I know several people that have never had discs as well from age. Could it be a bad bath of discs produced, well maybe....but due to age I never had one and I have over 5000 various disc based formats so I should have encountered this and I never have.

Yep I have that on a few of my titles, it really bugs me, going to upgrade my Zombie blue underground dvd to blu ray because it has the worst rot of any disc ive had. Wasnt planning on upgrading zombi to blu because its a movie so boring I cant sit through but it has a couple very brief segments that I like enough to keep in my collection to revisit once in awhile.

Yup, a few of my titles have that. A handful of them are Lionsgate titles and one is a WB title. They play fine now but who knows how long it'll be before they're unplayable.

I've owned a lot more DVDs than BDs and only encountered one DVD that went bad. So it seems as though BDs are more susceptible to rotting.
