I wanted to like, hell, I wanted to LOVE Captain America: The Winter Soldier--perhaps this is part of the problem--especially since the original Cap is one of my favorite Marvel films. For whatever reason I couldn't look beyond the cliched plot like I can with many other films. I like the notion of finding a line between privacy and security, but it was so tritely executed that I can't look far beyond that. It doesn't help that the character of Captain America can be dry at times, more so--in my opinion--than many other Marvel characters (I'm sure those that have read Cap in the comics will agree). So it's this notion that highlights how important the script, and more specifically, the plot are--which just wasn't there for me.

I may be a in left field with this remark, but I also thought, "what if this film didn't have ties to the multimedia juggernaut, Marvel?" Meaning, what if it was just another action film, would people enjoy it nearly as much? Marvel films are marketed as events more so than "another action film," and I think that "experience" is half of the enjoyment.

I should say that the film wasn't a total disappointment for me. The special effects were astounding and the high-octane action sequences were very entertaining. I also really enjoyed Robert Redford's role in the film.

Again, I didn't hate the film, I'm just unable to justify all of the hype it's receiving.
I think you've answered your own question with stating what you liked...

1.) Action
2.) Special Effects
3.) Robert Redford
3.) Actor's chemistry
4.) It's a MARVEL vehicle

That's enough to make it a box office slam.

People are enjoying on diversified levels, which isn't easy to do with a blockbuster film. Women, and people who ordinarily wouldn't go for "comicbook" fare, are enjoying this film.

Yes, July would have been a good time for them to release it on Blu-ray, but I can't really complain about it. August 12th is not that much longer of a wait.

The week its coming out in August 2014 after Guardians of the Galaxy's theatrical release is a 2 week difference. They could have chosen to release it the week of Guardians of the Galaxy, but I think that maybe they wanted space things out a little more and so that's why they decided on August 12th for its Blu-ray release.

Here is another image of concept art for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, that I covered with the spoiler tag because it would spoil the movie for those who haven't it.

so how is the moving doing financially? I haven't seen any numbers being thrown around. I know it did well on it's opening.

is it on track to do anything impressive? is it rivaling any of the ironman movies?

just curious.

just curious.

In fact, it is. It's over $500 million worldwide right now. Cap is on his way to the big leagues with Iron Man, Batman, and Spider-Man!

Oh I know, I just meant it's less unreasonable that he one day could be. He should definitely beat MoS and TDW. TFA was the second lowest grossing solo film for Marvel Studios, hopefully TWS can become the second highest grossing solo film.

And that's because it sucked. That was Marvel being cheap especially hiring the awful joe Johnson. If they got someone like Sam Mendes it would have made more.

Thanks for the opinion, but I disagree with you wholeheartedly, and its quality wasn't something I was trying to discuss.

Well that's why it didn't do too well. Word of mouth didn't help either. Winter Soldier is doing well because it's the best reviewed post Avengers film, best made with good word of mouth and because Cap was pretty badass in avengers. Expect Cap 3 to do really good if the reviews are in favor

TFA got good reviews (79% RT), made money ($176M US / $370M total worldwide on a $140M budget). Joe Johnston is by no means considered a poor director. The Rocketeer alone will always give him the benefit of the doubt.

Who do you think they're going to believe? A cheap crook or the #3 box office star in America?
