Japan Ringu/Rasen/Ringu 2/Ringu 0 Birthday (4/27/2012)

Kadokawa is issuing the "Ringu" / "Ring" movie series for the first time in HD, in anticipation for "Sadako 3D" in theaters in May.

Audio and Subtitles in Japanese only, and the only extras are theatrical trailers for each movie.

Sweet. Too bad Dreamworks/Paramount probably won't release these in the States for a long time.

Would have loved English subs for these releases. Hope for that to happen sooner then later.

some neat covers there for the most part. Too bad most of the movies sucked. I think I only liked Ringu really.

Seems my post with screenshots and info was deleted when the site was having problems, I'll try to find the shots and re-post them within the next few days.
I did however find subs on this site http://www.subtitleseeker.com/ that worked perfectly well with the blu-rays of parts 1 and 2 on my PC.

So, any news about the original japanese trilogy (0, 1 and 2) having a BD release with English subtitles? As far as I know, they were released in Japan and Germany; but both without English subtitles. I'm really hoping that they get a release with the English subtitles; I have a DVD boxset, made by a local film distributor in my country; the audio is perfectly fine, but the image was cropped to 4:3, and it's basically a little upgrade over the VHS version. Thanks in advance for any reply .

Hello. I bought the first film. No subs. I synced it to a DVD script, with some minor timing adjustments. Quality's decent. Nothing revelatory but the disc is a nice upgrade for fans of the film.

Thanks for the reply! But I'm supposing you did that by watching it via a PC, or something like that, right? And about the picture quality; is it presented in the original aspect ratio? I believe it's 1.85:1 (fills a 16:9/1.78:1 display partially).

Hello. Yes, I did this all on my HTPC. The OAR is 1.85:1. Looks like the Blu's faithful. I don't have my old DVD copy around to compare framing and such, unfortunately, but the framing looks right to me.

Good to know; if they ever bring these films in Blu-ray to the US, I hope they use the same transfer. About the aspect ratio; the US DVD, released by Dreamworks Home Video, already had the original ratio (I never owned it); I mentioned the 4:3, because in my country, back when DVD arrived (very late), it was common to see cropped transfers; Ringu is one of them.

But anyway, let's just wait and hope .

I know these releases aren't English friendly but I'm curious to know what the video and audio quality is like for these blu-rays if anyone owns them.
