Does the BD-R version come with the regular DVD? Was it a first pressing thing or do they all just come with it as a bonus? All the listings for the DVD just say it's 1 disc and don't mention the BD-R at all.

I don't know if any of this corresponds to what is actually on the disc, but the back cover says:
Audio: Cantonese DTS HD MA 5.1, Cantonese DD 2.0, Japanese DD 2.0
Subs: Japanese subtitles, Subtitles for Japanese Dub
Whoever wrote the one review of the single Blu-ray version on Amazon seems to be under the impression it's just the bonus BD-R disc repackaged. This is weird since the specs on the disc back don't match the BD-R at all.

Yeah, They're definitely not the same. The pressed version of "The Odd Couple" is a different encode, with different soundtracks (I think) and no English subs. (I mention the movie because the DVD also included a bonus BD-R and was, IIRC, released by the same company that released STFD.)

a couple answers:
- skinny tiger bd-r was a bonus disc on the first pressing of the hd remastered dvd release. it is currently unconfirmed if the stand-alone bd is the same but if so, it is worth the upgrade from the shitty old dvd.
- that is not enter the fat dragon but the odd couple. a bonus bd-r was also included with initial pressing and is english friendly.
- for those intrested, that same company also put out a hd remastered dvd for fulltime killer that puts previous dvds to shame. sadly no bd-r is included. it has english subs and is region free.

Do any other movies come with the bonus BD-R. I'm tempted to try my luck at ordering some of these now.

I bought both skinny tiger and odd couple from amazon-Japan... they are the new edition that were just released last month.
I opened them and watched them last night... they are both factory-pressed. picture quality is excellent!

both have Mei-AH logo on the back-cover. So I guess the Japanese distributor got license from Mei-Ah. If the HQ master is belong to Mei-ah, then it is a shame that Mei-ah don't event bother releasing them in Hong Kong.

I would prefer a pressed disc over BD-R but why no English subs on the pressed? Nothing but frustration! Anyways, I would have double-dipped on The Odd Couple if a pressed blu-ray were to have English subs. I am still nervous about BD-R, though some say they can last as long as pressed.

After my little staycation away from HK cinema on blu-ray, it`s nice to know that not a damn thing has changed.

I thought the BD-Rs in the older releases were English friendly I'm confused now. Thinking of buying those.
