What a bummer yesasia should revise their listing on this title and just label it as single disc blu Ray rather than saying "blu-ray, ultra-hd blu-ray" I interpreted this as being a combo pack with a regular hd Blu-ray Disc and an ultra-hd Blu-ray Disc. Very misleading..... I just hope the picture on it is a good presentation.

I watched the trailer, this doesn't look like a full on restoration. More like people cleaning up a scan. The video is awful, all the shots we see of the film have blown out whites and too soft contrast and strong luminosity, like most early HD transfers.

In fact, original 80's VHS with burned in subs look better because they look like the film, not like some recent HK TV show where everything is clear and there are no shadows.

So the all new 4K master claim is bollocks then?

It's just another upscale?

Something's not right here... The new restoration not only played at film festivals but was also approved by John Woo... If this release is botched, it may very well come down to K&R using the wrong master?

This new bluray seems pretty much the same. I personally dont mind that it looks like a decent dvd and is perfectly watchable but I think most of you will be disappointed. If the old bluray video quality is a 2.5 out of 5 then this one gets a 3 out of 5. If old audio gets a 3 out of 5, then the new one gets a 3.5 out of 5. Extras are a 30 minute making of, two interviews which are 9 minutes each and a trailer all with no English subs. The movie's English subs seemed okay but not perfect.

Nothing special bluray. I had just watched those restored Hui brothers blurays which are obviously HD and beautiful. Going from The Magic Touch to this version of Better Tomorrow is a huge downgrade.

I would like someone else to review this blu because It's even possible that nothing changed compared to the previous blu but quite possible it looks slightly better than previous one - I really dont remember how bad the first blu was. Im being very strict this time since Im usually accepting of K&R blus. Chalk this one up as another Superbit DVD.
Hey Toddly, is this actually a 4k blu ray disk or just the standard one?

As I said before, it's watchable but comparing this to the Hui Brothers restored Bluray boxset, the boxset is obviously restored HD beauty. This new Better Tomorrow blu looks like an upscale...far from making anyone think it being 4K or HD.

Standard, and it doesnt look like any 4K blu I have ever seen. The 2K and 4K restorations of old movies on blu (Touch of Zen, Dragon Inn, etc.) are quite obviously impressive.

I'm starting to wonder if this is like what happened with Shout Factory, when they had access to the wrong masters for their Bruce Lee box set and had to recall them. Ugh... Ritrovata did all the work, and Kam and Ronson had ONE JOB!!!

Seriously, can Criterion and/or Eureka/MOC just get ahold of this now?

Hopefully some screenshots come out soon. If this is another K&R hack job...

Must be a different, inferior master, as there's no way you could mistake a 4k remaster for an upscale.

Yep. Something isn't right. We need to see some screenshots, because how can they screw this up when they are handed a restored transfer?

Exactly. The fact that people are saying "it may be an upscale" screams that K&R used the wrong master. We know a proper 4K master was recently created and used in theaters... I'd like to think you couldn't get away with a standard def blow-up at a film festival.

I don't know what to say. I really don't! If this another Fortune Star/Shout Factory screw-up (wrong master/upscale) or an out-and-out lie then I say we gear up and invade FS to rescue these films from these freaking idiots! I was expecting the worse but I thought that the worse would be a 4k mastered movie with the audio remix (no original soundtrack) and perhaps a low bit-rate, something like that. But, to read that the situation may be worse than that is almost hard to imagine. Though, I should not be surprised! WOW! Pretty speechless right now! This is insanity!

Ok the PQ at least looks serviceable .... but ... it's the same 7.1 mix with the added gun sounds ?

Looks like Spannick was right... wait for the screen caps.

Those two images look nothing alike. Upscale? Methinks Toddly needs to book an appointment at specsavers.

Hopefully some boutique label (c'mon Arrow!) will release this HD master with original mono and improved subs... and some new effing extras for gawd's sake!

Much better. With all respect to toddly, and I do appreciate you giving us a review so quickly, that's not just a 0.5 increase in video quality. The old BD and the new one are like night and day.

Fair enough,Toddly's out with his impressions by the looks of it but don't be popping at someone who at least took the hit and bought the damn thing unlike most who live in this thread.
