The only way you can get both the 3D and 2D versions is by getting the deluxe set at Metallica's site. Unfortunately, it is $64.98.

It would be cheaper just to buy the separate releases if you want both the 2d and the 3d. Ridiculous you have to do that, but that is the cheapest option it seems.

Are 3D TV's different or something? I bought the 3D "only" Best Buy exclusive today and was able to turn off 3D and view it perfectly fine in 2D.
WWE fan since 1990.

Thanks. Does the 3d have strong and consistent depth? Any pop out effects?

Good 3D IMO. Not many pop out effects, as with most 3D titles now a days (minus cartoons) some sequences, like the laser lights and smoke pop out a little.

Thanks, but I think I'd just stick with Quebec Magnetic.

I think it has very solid mid-level 3D. Some shots border on strong but not enough to get out of the medium category for me. Its a gorgeous production though, amazing colors and clarity. Nice to see a concert film shot in 24p cinema frame rate and in a 2.35 aspect ratio. Makes it more "epic".

The "drama" part of the story was something I wasnt too sure on, but after seeing it, it doesnt distract too much and the clips that arent of the band are kept short enough. The "story" is a little weird but it sort of works, ala Pink Floyds "The Wall", just on a much smaller scale.

The sound is thunderous! Rich deep bottom end to the kick drums and bass. Very good 5.1 with all speakers energized all the time.

The making of is as long as the movie on the second disc and is full HD. After watching it, you will want to see it again with the knowledge of all that went into making this happen!

Overall, I'm very pleased with this disc and I'm not really a die hard Metallica fan. I do enjoy many of their songs and have a few of their other concert DVDs.

Thanks for the report! I picked it up today, but wont have time to watch tonight. Really happy to hear about the solid low end support (this is crucial for me) and solid overall 3d. Was trying to decide today if the 3d would be worth before purchasing which it sounds like it is.

Anyone know if this is something that can be done with the PS3? It's the only 3D compatible thing I own at the moment lol

This was out in the UK yesterday. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm not a big Metallica fan, i like a few of their tracks but the concert was very well produced, the 3D was good and the short film with Dane De Haan was also interesting.
Pack your bags, we're going on a guilt trip!

The German Steelbook is very nice (and affordable!), includes 2D and 3D discs, but is locked to Region B (I tested it).

Heads up to those with Region Free capabilities and don't mind importing, Amazon UK has this for 9.25 pounds (before VAT removal)! Prior to today, it was going for 13.00 pounds. It includes a 3D Blu-ray and a regular blu-ray, but it is LOCKED for Region B:
