Finally got home a had a good look at it. Was absolutely perfect. Arrived in a box with those big air bubble things. Thanks again RogelioT for the link on the deal.
We all go a little mad sometimes.

Hello,

What's new with the Ben-Hur 55th Diamond Luxe Edition coming out in december 2014?

Just a packaging change. It will include all the discs included in the uCE in a Glossy case known as a Neo case (Warner calls them Diamond Luxe). It's already available as a BB exclusive, but it gets widely released in Dec.

I saw it at my local best buy and I gotta say the packaging is pretty and catches the eye nicely. It has a surprising weight as well. It feels like quality packaging. I will likely pick up on Black Friday.

The last time I saw this film was back in 2001, and that was a crappy full screen vhs. I'm watching the blu-Ray for the first time, and this is the first time I'm seeing the film in its OAR...holy shit those bars are massive! Wish I had a bigger tv.

I just pulled the trigger on this region-free 3-disc edition in the standard case for $13 and change.

I've been wanting to see Ben Hur for a while, and I'd prefer to have the 1925 silent film as well, but I'm wary of the Diamond Luxe cases. This UK 3-disc set seems like a good solution for the price.

I have 3 versions and had a problem playing them on my LG 4K 65 TV. I got static on the top and bottom of the movie [ not the screen ]. Only setting that seems to work is PHOTO.
Anybody else had this problem?

Packaging on that Luxe edition looks nice, but if you are a big fan, it is far inferior to the UCE packaging.

I just bought this at an estate sale. I paid $10 and it looks perfect. My only qualm was how the bonus disc was just stuck to the package with glue. What the heck do I do with that? I figured there was some kinda slip cover that encased everything but based on this video, not so much.

I LOVE the packaging but I HATE how the bonus disc was treated. Anyone come up with creative solutions to encase this disk? For now, it is just filed, loosely in between my other blus but you cannot see it because the spine is too thin for any title.

Top of my B.D. wishlist: "Blues Brothers (Universal 100th Anniversary,)" "Count of Monte Cristo," "Devil's Advocate (Unrated Director's Cut)" and "Ginger Snaps."

I agree, I don't know why they did it that way. Perhaps they didn't have access to 3 disc Neo cases at the time?

I ordered a used copy from gohastings of the Diamond Luxe edition of Ben-Hur, but it looks like they sent me the 3 disc digibook that came in the Ultimate Collector's Edition. These are the same discs, just in different packaging right?

That "review" is terrible. I found this one though, that shows that in the repackaging they left the bonus disc out of the case and put it in a paper sleeve.

Also, I watched the original pressing tonight and the audio was all over the place! At times crystal-clear and at others really muffled. It was very jarring especially during the first half. At least the PQ was good overall except in that scene
[Show spoiler]where there's a closeup of Tirzah before the tile falls on the street
. I generally don't pick up on visual oddities but that scene was DNR'd like crazy. I wish I could find a screen.

Just a close-up of a female with lot of diffusion, nothing unusual.

Yeah, I cursed a little when I unboxed and found that sleeve. Total bummer.

When I returned home from Easter lunch with my family, I decided to celebrate the day even more by watching my UK Blu-ray of the awesome 1959 version of Ben-Hur.

This. Blu-ray. Is. Awesome.

This picturesque qualities of this 70mm film are gloriously accentuated on this high definition transfer, and the colors are beautiful. I concur with the five-star site review, and I cannot think of any way to improve the presentation.

The trailer for the upcoming remake doesn't really quicken my pulse, but I'll probably give it a chance. What resounds with me about the 1959 film is how the action scenes with big special effects are only a small part, and how the movie takes its time to charm us with subtleties and nuances. The trailer for the remake doesn't exactly scream out, "subtlety."

I'm planning to revisit the 1925 version of Ben-Hur later tonight if the sleep monster doesn't attack me before I finish watching it.

I finished watching the 1925 version on the bonus disc of my set. It looks great for a standard definition transfer.

Ditto, I watched it again yesterday too. I flat out love the film and the Blu-ray is exquisite. I can however see it being improved upon with a UHD version - bear in mind that the 2.76 aspect eats substantially into the vertical resolution, that's barely 700 lines of info in 1080p - which would let more of the true glory of the 65mm anamorphic original shine through. The Blu still looks astonishingly good though.

I thought the trailer for the remake made it seem like some sort of TV special, it looks horribly cheap compared to the Camera 65 splendour of Wyler's version.

Nothing to do with DNR. The single closeup of Tirzah, and also of Ben-Hur in that scene has always looked slightly different to the shots before and after. It's in the source material and was on the old DVD. The close ups were probably shot at another time or maybe in a studio.

I've removed your spoiler because frankly, if such a minor detail is considered a spoiler than it would be impossible to say anything about what the film is about

I saw this on the big screen recently. It was amazing. The chariot race could've been filmed yesterday.
