Late to the thread (and know the deal is dead) but I did the same thing - such a great deal at $17.99. Have not watched any of them yet so I cannot comment on Rocky V.
Lloyd C. Cramden: Flint, How do you find time to read all these books?
Derek Flint: No, no, no, sir, I wrote those. In Like Flint (1967) |

Just wrapped up a rewatch of the series and didn't notice any such issue on Rocky V.
Mongol General: Wrong! Conan! What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women. |

I found the stand-alone Blu-rays of the first four Rocky movies all at used stores for less than $20 total, and went for this, since those are the only four that I revisit on a frequent basis. I watched all four Blu-rays this past weekend.
I have no complaints whatsoever about the picture quality of any of these four films, and I think that the Blu-rays look great considering the source material. The first film, Rocky, always had a drab look to it with the settings of run-down Philadelphia neighborhoods and the tale of a protagonist who has settled for a life that is less than what he is capable of rising up to have. The natural film look translates quite well to the Blu-ray, though. I love the streetlights of Philadelphia when Rocky first ascends to the top of the museum steps, and the scene where Mickey visits Rocky's apartment really shines. Rocky II is the same, and, even with the white specks during scenes, it has never looked better than it does on the Blu-ray. The lackluster critical response to Rocky III and IV is not unwarranted, but these two films were such a big part of my own childhood that I dearly love revisiting them, and, in truth, I tend to revisit them more than I revisit the first two. They both look superb on these Blu-rays. I think that the soundtrack to Rocky IV rules all. I don't outright dislike Rocky V or Rocky Balboa, but the movies bum me out, and I knew that I would not revisit them enough to warrant owning them. |
