I don't know but I'm willing to find out.

Apart from the resolution, I am given to understand that when downsampled to blu-ray, there is also a compression of the color range. With proper 4K, an expanded color range, hopefully closer to the original celluloid source, can be obtained. That said, the results may be more incremental than night and day.

Can someone please tell me how to find these deleted scenes on the blu Ray thanks
7 outtakes:
Nostromo Fly-Bys
Rise and Shine
Kane's Point of View
The Facehugger Attacks
Alien Attacks Lambert
Ripley Blasts the Alien
Firing the Engines
And is the audio commentary on the cocoon scene on the blu Ray as well.

You can find all of these in the 1992 ALIEN Laserdisc Archive on disc 6 of the Blu-ray set.

Go to the PART II - PRODUCTION section:

"Nostromo Fly-Bys" is in CHAPTER 7: INTRODUCTION/NOSTROMO EXTERIOR.

"Rise and Shine" is in CHAPTER 8: NOSTROMO INTERIOR.

"Kane's Point of View" is in CHAPTER 13: THE EGG.

"The Facehugger Attacks" is in CHAPTER 14: THE FACEHUGGER.

"Alien Attacks Lambert" / "Ripley Blasts the Alien" / "Firing the Engines" are all in CHAPTER 16: THE ALIEN.

I love that the take of Lambert slapping Ripley is different in the LD deleted scenes than the one they used for the alternate cut of the movie. In the LD one she never really connects, but in the movie she absolutely clatters Ripley and you can see how shocked Sigourney Weaver is when it connects.

Last time I viewed the supplements for the Blu-ray, I counted three different takes of the SLAP!

Agreed. The take used in the DIRECTOR'S CUT is the best.

I found it curious that a minor line of dialogue was cut from the deleted scene between Ripley and Lambert. Lambert asks "Why?" in response to Ripley's question: "Have you ever slept with Ash?" The line is intact for the 1992 Laserdisc version but clipped from the more polished and remastered alternate 2003 release.

As the edited scene is now, Lambert just answers her question without any interest.

Neither did I agree with the edited cocoon scene as used in the DIRECTOR'S CUT. Most of Ripley's dialogue is missing, and the placement of the scene is baffling. It originally occurred directly after finding the remains of Parker & Lambert - not after setting the self-destruct.

However, I did like the alternate take of the Jones & Alien encounter.

I still don't know why Ridley chose to keep that jarring jump cut where they try to stabilize Ash's decapitated head to showing his real head. It's so obvious it takes me out of the movie every time I see it. He could've put something in between those shots to mask it.
Top 10: [1] Blade Runner 1982 [2] Aliens 1986 [3] The Thing 1982 [4] The Shining 1980 [5] Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 1998 [6] My Neighbor Totoro 1988 [7] Monty Python and The Holy Grail 1975 [8] Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn 1987 [9] Stalker 1979 [10] In The Mouth of Madness 1994

Not gonna happen. It was graded to be different from the original theatrical look (not as dramatically as the Cameron sequel, but still different in some key hues).

If anything I expect the future 4K release to to diverge even more with a pandering to HDR that will further skew things.

I was able to suspend disbelief back in the day (both scenes, especially Ash, freaked the living sh*t out of me as a kid); now, I appreciate the handmade quality to those effects. I wouldn't change a frame. Stan Winston RIP.

I appreciate the effects too, but not the awkward jump cut from fake Ash to real Ash. Even if it looked flawless, itís still a strange cut regardless.

What? Alien was drastically altered for the 2003 DVD release and the Blu-ray mostly retained that look. It looks nothing like the original prints and is by far the film with the biggest departure from the original colors in the set.

The only reason it doesn't get crap like Aliens (which is much more reflective of the original colors) is because people were so used to the 2003 DVD and since the Blu-ray resembles it closely enough, they assume it hasn't been messed with.

Default ALIEN 3 Expanded Soundtrack

Alien 3

LIMITED EDITION OF 3500 UNITS

STARTS SHIPPING MAY 3

La-La Land Records, Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Music and Universal Music Special Markets present the expanded and remastered re-issue of the original motion picture score to the 1992 feature film ALIEN 3, starring Sigourney Weaver, Charles S. Dutton and Charles Dance, and directed by David Fincher. Renowned composer Elliot Goldenthal (BATMAN FOREVER, PET SEMETARY, HEAT) composes an astounding musical tapestry of suspenseful atmospherics and pulse-pounding action – featuring some of the most effective cues ever composed for the legendary ALIEN franchise. Goldenthal’s artistic triumphs here would propel him into a series of acclaimed scores to important genre films that continues today. Expanded by more than 40 minutes beyond the original 1992 album assembly (which appears here remastered on Disc 2), the presentation showcases the film score in all its glory, along with bonus alternates. Produced by Nick Redman and Michael Matessino, associate produced by Neil S. Bulk, and remastered and mixed by Matessino from original digital masters, this special 2-CD set is limited to 3500 units and features exclusive in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and sharp art direction by Mark Banning.

I honestly could not hold back from pre-ordering it. This bloody reissue has been a long time coming and i'm so happy I held back from ordering the original CD release.

Now i'll finally own CD copies of the PROPER Alien trilogy soundtracks.

[Show spoiler]Funny, I almost dropped $50 for a blu-ray copy of Hellraiser: Deader on eBay, but this is so much more worth the cash.
