Currently I have a Klipsch HDT1000 (I think this set is a bit more powerful, at least the sub is).

But I'm thinking this Polk for my bedroom down the line. I can get the set for about $200 so I'm thinking I will get it now even though I don't have a place for it, and take advantage of the deal.

For a bedroom set up, seems to be a fair deal. Better than a soundbar too.
still need another AVR to drive it.

It went up $10 bucks, but a deal is a deal.

Question Need help setting up new Polk Audio Speakers

My current setup:
Onkyo TX-NR5010
Center Channel: Polk Audio CSi A6
Front L/R: Polk Audio RTi A7
Subwoofer: Polk Audio DSW Pro 550wi
Surrounds (x4): Polk Audio Blackstone TL3

I am somewhat new to setting up surround systems correctly. I have been doing research and want to get my setup perfect. I am a bit stumped on something I just came across with regards to the surround speakers I have which are the Polk Audio Blackstone TL3. The manufacturer rates them as follows: the overall frequency response is 90-31,000Hz, and the -3dB frequency response is 115-28,000Hz. When I am setting up the cross-over frequency on these, do I set it to 90 or 115? And where does this -3dB come into play and what does it mean exactly? I can go into my receivers' settings and change both the frequency AND the dB setting. So does that mean for these speakers I am to change the frequency to 115 and then also change the dB setting (which I believe is currently set at 0dB for these speakers) to -3dB?

Furthermore, the subwoofer specs are: frequency response 30-125 Hz (-3dB) and continuously variable 60-120 Hz crossover. So when I set the TL3 frequency to whatever I set it to, what do I then set the sub's crossover freq to?

Thank you for any help in advance!

keep the pio. 1522, those 70's need the juice. 5.1 is plenty of sound for most & 7.1 is some~what limited. since you have 2 subs, you can play romper room to see which you prefer for what room. If the subs don't fulfill your needs, there's plenty of time for upgrades. Heck, 2 subs in the game room should be worth it.

So a 2nd room for gaming ehh?
keep the pio. 60 with that set-up. Pio. 50 for the bedroom?

Don't feel bad about the 1522, $599 is a great deal, & knowing you can power them correctly. Go ahead and return the extra unit. (why 2 to begin with?)

Well... not sure what the hold up is. Hook it up $0N!
Get over to the Pioneer Audio thread. See what those cats have to say 'bout the Pio. 50-60.
Hi new to this site. I was wondering why you keep saying they need the power i own a weak AVR and at moderate volumes my system sounds good although i do feel i want a better receiver going to get a Pioneer Class D3 amp when i can but i currently own the Pioneer 521-K and that's powering the 70's CS20 and 35Bs with no Sub voices and mids sound great and i'm going to get a Sub soon. In 5.1 the bass and mids seems weaker(weak AVR) but in stereo the music sounds punchy and good. I just can't seem to get much bass in the dolby pro logic 2 option.

Also trying to find some reviews on Polks newer Line the TSX line.

jdwii,
the subject of options were deliberated, they can handle more power.
just suggested a safe play.

I'm not savy with pio equip. or specs. but...
more power is being dispersed with 5.1 (more channels), dedicated power is being concentrated in 2ch. stereo.

Tsx stuff should be in the streets within the coming weeks.
May-June

just stay away from white vans.
oranges optional.

I'll try sometimes it can be tempting . Yeah i'm siding with you on the power issue there is noticeably less power on 5.1 then stereo.

Thanks for replying and yeah i have no doubt on my mind that my 70's could handle way more power.

If your AVR seems warmer than usual or HOT, keep it nominal, turn down the volume.
don't let the your AVR get the clipps. it's worse than the clap.
no more boom boom.

They sure can handle a bit of power, I have my Polk M 70's hooked up to an Emotiva XPA-2 (300 watts per channel). I don't get distortion until I drive amp to near clipping.
