In Spidey 2002, it's basically the same scenario. He let's a thief run away with someone else's money because that person was rude... and Spidey realizes that even though he had a chance to stop the person, he let them get away for immature reasons, and as a result he loses Uncle Ben.

I guess I just flat out forgot that so thanks..... I do gotta say that Martin Sheen and Sally Field were a fantastic Uncle Ben and Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man.

J.K. Simmons has indicated that he would love to play J. Jonah J. if a sequel is done and they are looking. I say bring him on, because he is JJJ in my opinion.

Quote:
“Oh, I’m open to anything,” Simmons said. “Obviously that was enormous fun playing that character. A big part of the fun was doing it with Sam and with Tobey. Like I said I literally have not seen the movie. I don’t even know tonally how different it may or may not be. I’m a fan of the actors, the director and everything else. Yeah, I’m always open.”

It would be interesting to see how he fit in with the tone of Webb's world, and I wonder if he would act the same, or take a little different approach.

Yeah J.K.Simmons is completely irreplaceable as JJJ. Just brilliant! Really hope he gets offered the job.

JK Simmons made a superb JJJ but the question would be would he fit into this type of Spider-man movie?

Well it's not like they can make a 'dark' JJJ and get away with it. They'd be hung if they did that.

That's my most prevalent thought about the movie. So jealous when I saw how he could move in this one.

I doubt he's even being considered. I would personally love him to reprise his role. He was even great in the travesty known as "Spider-Man 3"! However, I don't think they want this series to have any connection to the last. I also think it would confuse the general public, or at least the producers would have such a thought.

Well, they let Judi Dench play M in Brosnan's Bond films and Craig's, so anything is possible.

Ok, finally saw tAS the other night and was not impressed. With the exception of Emma Stone, I thought the cast was lacking. The choice of the Lizard as the bad guy was as bad as the Sandman and venom in 3. Where's Electro or kraven?

Garfield has his moments, but I thought Maguire was the better. Kirsten Dunst is sexier, but Stone is more wholesome.

Things I thought were better: no Harry Osborne. No voiceovers at the beginning or end of each movie. Building his own web shooters.

I have hope for a sequel, especially if orci and kurtzman writing it.
I'm just your average stuck up, half witted, scruffy looking nerf hearder.

I think I finally figured out who Michael Massey's "man in shadows" character is supposed to be. He's
[Show spoiler]Peter's dad.
Apparently Webb has gone on record that the hat he wears during the final scene with Connor's is a clue to his identity. Well watch the beginning of the movie. When Peter is playing hide and seek, he sees
[Show spoiler]a pair of shoes behind a curtain. Peter pulls the curtain expecting to find his father. Instead there's the same hat Michael Massey wears, propped up by a broom. I'm guessing that hat belongs to Peter's father.

I know that in the comics,
[Show spoiler] Peter's parents returned as androids. Did they ever return actually alive at some point?

I too have just seen this..
from another thread.

The Amazing Spiderman.
this is a great deal edgier than I had anticipated, given the safety net approach to the previous 3 films a decade ago.

AS a reboot, it did enough to be likeable, it definitely tried to distinguish itself from Sam Raimi's efforts, and I must say I loved the first half of the movie dealing with consequences and melancholic attitudes to being bullied and putting to one side an individuals moral sense, this is a theme I wished was explored more and of course the perpetrator to Uncle Ben's incident is a sure interesting emotive point. Even in a graphical sense, Spiderman himself is more acutely "Spider" like in his ability, setting up trip wires, and the super fast acrobatics vs the villain. But in a few frames that interesting factor is left behind.

[Show spoiler]In my mind, I wished to have seen the dynamics of the first half explored more that the Villain we have who morphs into a "cardboard" cut out of feature film villains who in an act of ultimate villainy, must ascend a sky scrapper and execute his evil shenanigan in the final act (and these buggers never use elevators).

To me I am reminded of Marvel's "The Incredible Hulk" which dealt with similar style villain, but far more interesting. With that said, I found the "Shoplifter" had more emotional resonance as compared to the Lizard and as the film develops, to me the film becomes unremarkable.

Will say Good acting from the leads, and I was dumbfounded to learn [
[Show spoiler]B]emma stone's character is 17[/B]
, never bought that 1.

3/5 stars which is an average mark, final act dulls the efforts of the first.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Musically it was straight forward, but there is a scene with Spidey experiencing his new found abilities between buildings that had a musical cue which I though was very derivative of James Horner's theme from Star Trek 3 (Enterprise goes to warp outside spacedock), and thinking that sounds familiar, of course I learn The Amazing Spderman is composed by James Horner so it made sense ;-)
"Hey, I'm no ghost! Well, the nerve of that guy and his driving eyeballs."

Patrick Star!.
