Once again ........................... Personally I would not use cinema type speakers unless and only unless I had a dedicated theater with a transparent screen.
Fair point, i guess ideally a transparent screen is what their made for. I don't really like the idea of the centre speaker being low down like it would in my setup, but you know you can only do what you can, life's full of compromises...

For me ........................ I will generally always use music to demo and test speakers ......... that is unless they are set up in a surround array .......... which would be difficult when testing multiple speaker sytems.
Yes i can see the sales workers getting pretty fed up quite quickly setting up loads of speakers for movies....but it's their job to make me happy

One solution may be to use music to test, but have a centre speaker connected as well , so a 3.0? Since the centre does most of the work in a movie i'll be able to get a good picture of what the front 3 would be like for HT use despite only using music to test? Would that work

You see .................... I also use my theaters for music playback and I don't believe that cinema arrays portray a very cohesive musical sound-stage.

Having a a less than ideal center channel location is something most of us deal with ................. And if done correctly, it's not as bad as it seems. Many people will angle theirs upwards towards the seating positions as a solution.

That may very well be but ..................... I don't think they'll be able to do the impossible for you

Or a better test would be ................... To test the different center channels alone with monophonic signals and heavily vocal laden tracks

Yeah that's one of the downfalls of cinema speakers i've been told. I'm a sucker for musical scores in movies, their often the best parts.

I will look to fire the centre channel up too. I'm aiming for it to go on a dedicated stand under the screen.
