Just blind bought the 2D from Amazon for $9. Figured that was about as good as it'll get for BF. Hopefully I'll enjoy it

The 2D presentation is great, but the 3D presentation is off the chain.

Think it's worth the extra $10 to pick up? I'm not the biggest fan of 3D. Have yet to watch a movie in its entirety in 3D at home.

Yes. I paid $20 for the 3D pack and don't regret it one bit.

The coupons that came with the BBY exclusive ($8 any BD, $10 online credit card) made this a no-brainer.
Wanted Digibooks: Mullholland Dr (UK, no rating logos). PM!
for (int i = wallet; wallet >= 0; wallet -= 50) {
if (typeBD.equalsIgnoreCase("Normal")) collectionCount += 3;
if (typeBD.equals("Criterion") || typeBD.equals("Steelbook")) collectionCount += 2;
if (typeBD.equalsIgnoreCase("OOP")) collectionCount +=1;
if (typeBD.equals("U&S")) collectionCount += 10;
}

Default Life of Pi (2012) 2D/3D - March 12,2013

I bought this on release day and just got around to watching it today. I thought the 3D and the visual imagery was incredible. However I'm not sure that I have a desire to rewatch it ever (Lately I've felt this way about 80% of the films I've seen). What are your thoughts on rewatch value?

I don't think I really 'got it' until about the third viewing. There's so much going you miss a lot of stuff first time around.

I feel the same way. I really think the twist at the end of it leads to not much replay value at all for me. It's kind of like Avatar for me. Yes it looked great but that doesn't mean the story is that great to make me watch it over and over again.

From my understanding from watching the special features
[Show spoiler] In the book, the story he told the Japanese was an alternate version of events and it was left up to the reader to decide what to believe. And that Pi was annoyed while telling that second version.

I know it's supposed to be a movie with deep symbolism regarding spiritual matters but I really didn't see it having multiple layers of depth in that regard. Unless you take that twist ending and force extrapolate "deeper meaning" from the movie events, it's just a fantastical movie about a boy trying to survive with a tiger. It's not bad, just not amazing. (A la origami in Blade Runner)

I agree with you. My original post I forgot to type "not much replay value."

[Show spoiler]no the story he told them at the end was the truth, the 'CGI' version in the film is what his mind created to help him deal with the tragedy of what he had just been through.

That's your opinion, and one to which you're certainly entitled. I've read the book and watched the movie several times, and my opinion is that the decision as to which story to believe is left up to the reader/viewer to decide.

When the writer is told to seek out Pi he is told that Pi has a story that will make him 'believe in God'. When Pi finishes telling his story he asks the writer which version he prefers.
[Show spoiler]The writer says the story with the tiger, as it's the 'better story'. Pi thanks him and tells him "and so it is with God". For me he's saying that much like religion/belief in a God, it's up to the individual to decide which is the better story, which one they believe.

That's a common feeling for me too. And not just this, but, other really good films. And that's my biggest peeve about blind buying.

I know Life of Pi and Blue Jasmine and other great films are great...and I love them. But I find myself not rewatching them. They don't have replay value for me the way I'm psyched to rewatch, say, Rocky, or even Bad Boys 2.

So I don't know why some truly great movies that I actually like, end up sitting on my shelf, not getting multiple spins?

I do like to rewatch many "slow burn" movies, such as Another Earth, Stoker, Take Shelter, Kill List and Sleeping Beauty (2011. Not by Disney)

Yes I believe your second part as well, I was just giving a quick sumup.
