The only other thing I can thing of off the top of my head is using a cheater plug, that's not really the greatest solution, more of a band-aid.

If all else fails the Marantz AV 8801 would be a good solution.
Problem solved! When I moved everything to the new wall, I ran the cable straight to the box, forgetting to use the APCs filter. Just ran a second coax from the APC to the cable box and that took care of the issue. Still a very faint hum in HT bypass mode, but I have to have my ear next to it to hear it. I can live with that. I think I'm still going to buy the XLR cables, and I also have a dimmer switch for the lights in that room. Think I might have that removed as well since I know it can create issues as well.

I completely forgot about the the coax cables, they usually are the source of most hums, you should get an RF isolation transformer from Blue Jeans Cable. I had a problem like that with my Parasound amp, the isolation transformer worked like a charm.

Good to hear that you've found the problem.

Your moving all your gear? I thought you just moved it a little while ago?

If I may, the cheapest way to get rid of the hums when the culprit is usually the cable, is to have the cable company come out and put in a proper ground from the box outside the dwelling.

That's a good idea HTG. The RF Isolation Transformer is $12 or something like that, so it's not really an expensive proposition.

But my suggestion cost $0.00.

BTW Good morning Alex. Glad you were able to get rid of the hum.

Depends on the cable company. Our cable company charges us a minimum of $50 for a tech to show up for anything, doesn't matter what it is.

I was referring to when I moved it a few months back; I have no intentions to move everything again as it was a big enough pita to do it once. Thanks for the suggestions and comments Andrew and HTG.

Regarding Looper, I really wasn't expecting what I saw based on the previews. That said, i still enjoyed the movie, although I thought the ending was a bit predictable. Didn't get to Cosmopolis last night since I was messing with the ground loop issue after we finished looper. Might try to watch that one today after the Colts game.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Monster power conditioners? Thinking about picking one up for my rack on the right of my room so I don't have to run that stuff through a power strip. Could also get a panamax one, but those are slightly more expensive, or just order another APC AV H15.

I really like my Monster HTS-5000. Got a great deal on it back in the 90s. It retailed for 550 and I was able to find one NIB for 369. I have had zero issues with it. I did own a Panamax but it went south 7 years after I bought. They did replace it but with a cheaper model and it is up in the MB so it does not get as much use now.

There were a few things that didn't quite work with Looper, they were just details more than anything. Like the vehicles, not that I was expecting everyone to flying cars or anything but a 1990's Ford pickup? What were the tubes supposed to be around the exhaust, it just looked like they tacked something on there just for the sake of having something on there.

The ending wasn't the greatest and predictable like you said. There should have been some sort of twist as the whole movie was pretty predictable, with a science fiction movie that's like this there's usually some sort of twist to make you think at the end.

I've got a Monster power conditioner, like all Monster gear it's not total junk, just overpriced. If you can find one marked down quite a bit then go for it, mine hasn't given me any problems.

True. I bought my HDP2400 for 66% OFF on Boxing Day several years ago. I sure as hell wasn't going to pay the then $500 list. It's worked out well for me and even saved my setup a while back, so in this case there a case to be made for buying a Monster product. There...I said it!

Thanks for the info regarding the power conditioners.

Home alone tonight, so decided to have some fun with volume. I got the meters up to 7 or 8 lights on One and a techno song by Overwerk I only had it there for maybe 30 seconds as it was too loud for my tastes, but there was no sign of giving out on the amps or the speakers. It was really amazing to be honest. I've never heard them play so loud before, and yet they still sounded just as good. The most amazing thing was how forceful the bass was. Doubt I ever get there again, but was fun to test

Nice!

It is fun to test what the limits are once and awhile. I've found with just about any tower speaker that I've owned to get them really pumping some bass you've got to crank them pretty good. The Studio 100's were the ones I had to crank the most to get them really going, I did have smaller amps at that time though.

So how's the XSP? Getting used to it?

I can't tell how much is the XSP and how much are the XPRs, but I'm really like the sound as a whole. I don't think my system has ever sounded as good to be honest. I also am happy with the performance that I don't really feel the need to go any further down the rabbits hole, save for a few small things like eventually adding a dac and another power conditioner. But on the amp/pre front, I'm done...unless I hit the lotto.

I have a hum isolater. With all the ridiculous equipment I use to have in my apartment bedroom about 2 years ago it was needed. Coax cable is the problem almost all the time. Power conditioners....well shielded cables..etc. can help also.
