movielib---Many sites are badly managed so do not have any means of advising customers of live stock levels. I've placed orders for things before, even pc parts, only the next day to get some mickey mouse email to say they don't have any

So? If that happens it happens. I did read reviews and comments about all three of the places I mentioned above and they all seemed to have very good reputations.

With 220 Electronics, I sent them an email with my price comparison. They emailed me back in a timely manner and said they would absolutely honor their price guarantee but I'd have to order over the phone. I called and was treated great and the player arrived in two days with the cheapest shipping option (of course, they're in Chicago and I'm in Madison so it didn't have to go far).

Do you sell the mod kits or something? I hesitate to ask and I'm usually not one to be that suspicious, I just don't understand why you'd be bothered by people buying professionally modified players.

Truthfully I do not have any vested interest in the mod kits, I like them because they are easy to fit by the end user and they work. In part it is the easy fit mod kits that draws oppo to people

No problem. I believe you.

I liked getting mine from 220 because I don't think the price difference was that much, the modification was done by people who do them every day and they guarantee the modification will work for the life of the player and that it will be compatible with all firmware updates. Probably that will all be true with the mod kits but I like to have a company that guarantees their own work. Also I'm 65 years old and while I consider myself reasonably electronics savvy I can't keep up with you younger folks.

Hello,

http://www.bombayelectronics.com/Opp...regionfree.htm

Got my OPPO 93 with the internal region free kit six months ago from Bombay Electronics. Very happy with my purchase.

movielib-I don’t doubt that some people prefer to pay some one to do the whole job for them, and do not begrudge them that choice. The pro mod kit I have, if I was fitting them every day would take 15 minutes at the most.
I have no problem with basic mods. The satellite TV box I have here, was installed on a hot day, so almost immediately green screened, so rather than kill my self with stress chasing the local company who sold it, I had a look around the net to discover it was simply a case of fitting a better fan, which I have done. No more green screen in over two years.

I'm not sure as to the first two, but in regard to the third, Panasonic's DMP-BDT500 is supposed to be fantastic. Picture quality more or less on par with the Oppo, and 7.1 analog out with 192/32 DACs. No SACD or DVDA, though... that might be a dealbreaker. Also, Denon players are supposed to be pretty good.

According to the licensing agreements all Blu-ray players manufactured are not allowed to offer the region free or region selectable feature. Consumers legally are allowed to own region free and region selectable kits under the current laws around the world. There are some third party companies that modify region A OPPO BDP-93 players to be region free or region selectable and then they resell the OPPO BDP-93 as a region free Blu-ray player. A consumer can also purchase an internal or external region free or region selectable kit for their OPPO BDP-93 and modify the player themselves so that they can play any Blu-ray or DVD from anywhere in the world.

Firmware updates allow consumers to play the latest new Blu-ray releases while also fixing bugs. Some firmware updates disable the region free and region selectable kits. Some region free and region selectable kits offer a firmware update that will re-enable the region free and region selectable feature.

Hello

I'm in Europe but buying this player in the USA is still cheaper than anywhere here (!).
I could buy it off Bombay ELectronics or 220. Both are exactly the same price (696 vs 695$) for multiregion and international shipping.
I'm about to order..but should i wait a few weeks and see with horror that Oppo have a new model coming up ?
Or if i order this one in the USA, what problems could i face over here ? I guess the power plug is not an issue as it's delivered with both systems. Anything to worry about ?

Thanks

I just want to point out that some people who have the mod kits are having trouble with the latest Oppo firmware. Those of us with professionally modified players are not.

The failure is with the Professional Modificaction Device sold by bluraychip.dk
This is the kit which allows one button BD region switching. Is a new circuit board which goes in the player and is the most common mod for the Oppo. It is mostly sold by authorised Oppo resellers but can be self fitted.

There is a fix discussed in the other thread, to update the Mod's firmware as well as the players, but this does not appear to work for all users.

The kit which still works is the standard software only kit.
