Foxes is a very realistic gritty coming of age drama from director Adrian Lyne....believe me.....it's powerful stuff.

So are Kino Lorber films DVD-Rs/BD-Rs? I'm interested in buying a lot of these titles, but i'm not sure of the authenticity of the releases

Huh? Read this thread....these releases are pressed discs released by KL thru a license agreement with MGM. The transfers come straight from MGM.

I don't think so but one thing they are is crap. Almost everything is on a BD-25 and they rarely score over 3 1/2 stars for video quality on this site. And on top of that they charge for them like they think they're putting out Criterion-like transfers.

You can always get them for fairly cheap, though. I rarely pay more than 16 bucks per disc. I do think SRP should be like 24.99, though, if not 19.99.

I'm happy they are starting to produce extras, though.

It would be nice to see a 4k remaster of these titles but no one's going to do it. Might as well get a high quality BD of the current master rather than nothing at all, or a terrible DVD version.

Agreed. The DVDs of a lot of these releases weren't even anamorphic, so the BDs are a notable improvement.

The studios themselves don't seem that interested in catalogue titles, so if it weren't for Kino, Olive et al, we'd probably get nothing... and they're still about half the price of Twilight Time.

and I don't think they're terrible transfers. Most of these films are not going to get top notch restored prints to use. They simply are taking existing masters and putting them out in 1080p.

They look far superior to dvd, people have to put their expectations in check.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

The Cabinet of Dr. Caliagri (New 4K Restoration, Alternate Score by DJ Spooky)

Kino Lorber have sent us a new trailer for the recent 4K restoration of director Robert Wiene's masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). The clip features music from an alternative score produced by DJ Spooky. Street date is November 18th.

The legendary silent film was recently restored in 4K by Murnau-Stiftung in collaboration with the Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv and L'Immagine Ritrovata - Film Restoration and Conservation. Earlier this year, the new restoration had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Synopsis: This classic piece of German expressionist cinema employs stylized sets, costumes and make-up to tell its story from a shifting point of view. Dr Caligari runs a side show at a fair where a somnambulist predicts someone's death and that night the person is murdered. The somnambulist turns out to be a lunatic from a local asylum and Dr. Caligari the asylum's insane director.

Special Features:

Illustrated Booklet Essay by Kristin Thompson
Caligari: How Horror Came to the Cinema (Documentary, 52 minutes)
New Music Score by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky

Restoration Demonstration

DRUM (1976) arrived today still at work but noticed the back cover shows a running time of 98mins I hope this is really the 110 min version. Anyone confirm this info yet? otherwise I will once i get home this eve.

UPDATE: I checked the disc and it has a running time of approx 100 mins so this must be the 98 MIN version. To be honest I don't know the differences between the longer and this cut.

I noticed the release is thru Kino / Scorpion Releasing - something tells me they included the the commentary track from Director Steve Carver.

this disc is Region A locked no subtitles.
