Been waiting months to say this, but just got my shipping notice for A GAME OF DEATH, INVISIBLE GHOST, and CHAMBER OF HORRORS. Right up my alley.

I noticed on Kino's releases of The Skull and The Man Who Could Cheat Death they list how long the special features are. Is this something Kino is doing going forward?

I really like this because I might have a half an hour to sit and watch some special features, but then next thing you know the interview is 30 minutes or more. It's a great thing to do so we can decide if we want to start in on a featurette or hold off until we can finish the whole thing. Just thought I'd mention this, like I said those are the first Kino releases I've seen do that.

99 River Street is also very good. I haven't watched my copy of I Wake Up Screaming yet.
Totally agree on Cry of the City . I will be watching 99 River Street this weekend and I am looking foward to that.

Last night, I watched my Kino Lorber Blu-ray of Road House (1948).

Cornel Wilde (The Big Combo, Leave Her to Heaven, Edge of Eternity) plays Pete, the manager of a backwoods roadhouse that is owned by his best friend, Jefty, played by Richard Widmark (Pickup on South Street, Kiss of Death, Night and the City). Since Jefty has a shady habit of bringing random girls from the city to work as lounge singers at the roadhouse and then dumping them at a moment's notice, Pete is initially skeptical when Jefty falls hard for Lily, a sultry Chicago singer played by Ida Lupino (High Sierra, On Dangerous Ground, Private Hell 36), and brings her home. Pete eventually succumbs to Lily's charms, however, and begins a love affair with her while Jefty is out of town on a hunting trip. When Jefty returns to the roadhouse and discovers the truth, he devises a sadistic plan to bring Pete down. Soon, Pete, Lily, and the beautiful roadhouse cashier, played by Celeste Holm (All About Eve), are fighting for their lives.

Road House is one of the best classic film noir movies that I have seen in recent memory, and it benefits from an interesting rural locale that differs from the usual shadowy cityscapes of most films noir.

Ida Lupino, while not exactly a femme fatale in this particular movie, has one of the sexiest noir roles here. Her nightclub routine scenes, which she sung herself in a strangely alluring gravely voice, lend a smolderingly sensual aura to the story. Lupino smokes a lot in this film, and, in fact, she's basically a human smokestack, but this story element simply adds to the appeal, since films noir always excelled at using cigarettes as sexual innuendo.

Richard Widmark was amazing at playing unhinged characters during the early part of his career, and his signature laugh is used to great effect. Ida Lupino may command attention during the first hour of this movie, but the finale belongs to Widmark.

This Kino Lorber Blu-ray sports an excellent video and audio presentation, with plenty of detail in the picture and with sound well-suited for the nightclub sequences. The audio commentary track by Kim Morgan and Eddie Muller is endlessly engaging, and the "Killer Instinct: Richard Widmark and Ida Lupino at Twentieth Century Fox" featurette is a great touch.

MisterLime, are there any distribution issues with Teen Witch?

Amazon seems to be one of the few retailers who received stock. Target, Deepdiscount, Best Buy are all backordered.

My preorder at Target says backordered, estimated delivery of April 1 to April 24.

Thank you for any insight!

Judging by the number of thanks the TOUGH GUYS post has generated I think it's safe to say it will be a top seller. The release is in the unique position of never having been available on DVD, itself a factor for potentially big sales numbers, but the film is also a fine comedy and an entertaining film and many people will be happy to add it to their collections. I hope it does well enough for Kino so that they will consider picking up other films like it from the era.

Same with Ridley Scott's 1492: Conquest Of Paradise, no DVD or Blu-ray ever released in the USA. Both films have had DVD releases overseas (1492 on Blu-ray overseas). Both have potential to be big sellers for Kino Lorber, I will be buying both when they are released.

Did I miss the announcement for some of these? Three Sisters (which year?), Kill Baby Kill, Man in the Glass Booth, and The Last Laugh all seem suddenly on the list.

Three Sisters (1970) directed by Laurence Olivier and Man in the Glass Booth are part of the American Film Theater collection. First two to be released on Blu-ray. We confirmed the other 2 a while ago.

If you really want to see Remember My Name, there are a few decent bootlegs out there to be had for reasonable prices. Full frame, but with something like this, you take what you can get. Definitely watchable, though.

Sorry, "as a rule" you don't listen to commentaries? That's an awfully odd way of phrasing something, which begs the question, did you have some kind of bad experience with a commentary that led you to this staunch practice?

A Commentary killed my parents. From that day on, I vowed I would never listen to another commentary until I could have my revenge.
