You can get this blu-ray at Family Video (used) for only $8.00, or even cheaper.

I basically got it for free after using my BB RZ points, and selling off the UV/iTunes codes.

IMDB says that American Hustle was shot with Techniscope as well. I guess the director wanted the 2.40 ratio without distortions introduced by anamorphic lenses.

I guess it matters a lot less now as a source when the conversion is digital intermediate.

Well, not quite. By their very nature, anamorphic lenses squeeze/unsqueeze images, kinda like funhouse mirrors. Objects will not appear "true to shape" unless you're very, very careful when using anamorphic lenses. This is true even if the workflow is fully digital from beginning to end.

For example, Divergent was shot on DV. For the "fearscapes", the director and DP used anamorphic lenses. The director wanted to make the viewer feel that something was "off", and the distortion generated by anamorphic lenses gave him the visuals that he desired.

I meant Techniscope - these recent films look much better than the Techniscope films shot in the '60's.
