Another player based on the same chipset found in the Soniq B100. They're getting out there now big time which is awesome as they're hard to beat for the price. More manufacturers using the same chipset should ensure these cheaper region free players drive prices down and keep them down. Hopefully it'll encourage big brands to get into the region free game as well.

This sort of product will also tempt people to step up to blu-ray over dvd which will eventually lead the a greater range of blu-ray SKUs and lower costs.

Will this play any region DVDs as well? And what's the remote like? Any chance of a photo of that?

As per the first post you can set it to region 0 for DVD which is all regions.

Considering the actual player itself looks identical to the Soniq B100 down to button and input placement I'd say the remote would look identical too.

Looks like these are made exclusively for The Warehouse in NZ so basically they are NZ's equivalent of Soniq being exclusive to JB, Vivid to Aldi etc.

The next model up, the 5.1 Analog output version, is 3D compatible according to the box. $NZ199 (Full RRP) Saw it in store today.. don't know if its still multiregion selectable though. I guess you could buy it, then try it out and if not, take it back.

I'd only think about buying it on special though, I think you can get better 3D player brands for around that price already..

Hey, sorry to bring back a dead thread, but I just ordered one of these online from the Warehouse as they were running out of stock.

Are there any known issues with firmware etc., newer titles etc.?

Also, I've heard this model doesn't do full surround sound, is that right?

Cheers for any help.

Same chipset as the Soniq. It does surround sound. You have to output everything via the HDMI as it only has stereo analogue outputs.

As for firmware, well the last firmware update for one of the Soniq players did remove the multi-region functionality so I'd be hesitant to update unless you have any issues.

Default other veon hack?

hey all-Mr Noob here. just wondering whether anyone knows of a hack for the 3D Veon (VN2923BR-3D5.1). there's three models of the Veon-the 2916 mentioned in this thread, the 2922 (which adds 5.1 RCA output) and this 2923, which adds on top 3D capability. I've already got the 2922, and the menu was identical to the 2916, so it's multizoned. However, having now obtained a 3D one also (the run-out pricing was just too good to resist....), the menus are different, and the hack mentioned above doesn't work. On the basis of the 2916 being essentially the Soniq B100 in different clothing, I've looked for other Soniq 3Ds, but none of them match this Veon anywhere near as well as the 2916 to the B100. any suggestions as to any other potential matches?
