It is probably region free, but encoded in 1080i 50hz which would be incompatiblenwith your ps3 and Sony player. region free 1080p or 1080i60hz will play.

Default About the PS3 region free

Not sure on this or not but fron the updates you do I have read that PS3 is region free. Meaning no matter what region a movie is from it should work. I mean if you look the USA ps3 does play PAL which comes from the UK and other countries so it should play. I will soon be finding out for myself but I don't see why it would not work.

The PS3 is not region free, any machine will play region free discs but it is still region locked.
There is a different voltage between the American and U.K. model but this can be worked round by using a different power cord.
PAL and NTSC are DVD encodes.
