A little off topic, but for those that might be interested Bottleneck Gallery has a pretty neat set of prints, for all 3 films, by Matt Ferguson. I've ordered form the place before and they are fantastic. If you're interested, order quick, because their items are always super limited.

I have finally watched these in their entirety.

Fellowship is really good, and easily the best IMO.
The 2nd one has Helm's Deep, which is pretty cool, but not much else going for it.
The 3rd one has lots of epic battles, but also decent drama.

The VFX are really spotty at times. I can see all the CG people on the bigatures, as they stick out like a sore thumb.
The "massive" scenes look pretty awful too.
At times the bluescreen elements were pulled in a very sloppy manner, especially with the actors' hair.
Gollum looks so cartoony, and often just pasted into the scenes.
The compositing leaves a lot to be desired sometimes.
I could go on and on.
Overall, it's quite alright, and nothing that completely ruined it for me, but believable is something else.
There are many nice shots too though, so it's not all bad. Lol

It is totally unbelievable in terms of physics however, something that was further exaggerated in the Hobbit movies, where it was done to the extreme and unwatchable.

The packaging is really neat and classy.
I guess I like them enough to keep them, at least for a while.
I don't know how many times I'll sit down to watch them.

Fellowship looks much better than the theatrical version, which I rented from the library once.

The sound is the best in all the films. Excellent surround activity and great LFE. It couldn't wish for more. Stellar sound across the board.

PQ: 4-4,5/5 for all three. Some filtering....

Pretty decent overall.
When are they gonna release these movies on BD?:Crossroads (W. Hill; Steve Vai),Fun with Dick & Jane (Jim Carrey, Tea L.), Man on the Moon (Jim C.), Death Becomes Her R. Z.,Diana Krall-LiveattheMontrealJ.F., Alien Autopsy,Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys (Jodie Foster),Fierce Creatures (John Cleese, E. I., J.L.Curtis)Housesitter(Steve M., Goldie H.),Bowfinger (S. M.), Shopgirl (S. M.),OutofTowners (S.M.),Spanglish,Odd Couple 2 (Jack L., Walter M.),Wallace and Gromit-The Curse of the Were-Rabbit,

Pretty high PQ marks for such seemingly negative comments, no?

I think the Gollum CG largely still holds up actually. There might be a few parts questionable. I do agree with some who say some of the CG in Return of the King is questionable, but it's also 11 years old now.

I really didn't see much filtering as the grain structures are pretty strong. A little bit of EE in 'King makes it look a tad more digital compared to the first two which look very film-like.

Are all these comments (yours and others) "universal" in that they apply to the theatrical releases as well as the extendeds? I ask because I've seen the theatricals but only got the extended set for Christmas and haven't had the time to watch it yet.
