Some of the silents in HD have wowed me as much as any current release, perhaps more so given their age. Equally some have looked awful too.

If negative materials survive and haven't deteriorated, there's no reason they can't look as good as anything else more recent made on film.

The oldest standing set on one of the largest sound stages in Hollywood is being torn down today... The Paris Opera set from "Phantom of the Opera" 1925. Universal decided they needed the space for a theme park ride.

I heard that they were going to dismantle the actual Opera house set and store it elsewhere. I hope they've actually done that!
