Default Marantz SR5003 and speaker loudness? Please help.

Hi all,

Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

My set up is a Marantz SR5003 receiver and Speaker system is Pioneer SP BS22 Left, center and right speakers.

I'll try and make this as brief as possible. I have Marantz SR5003 receiver. I had some TEAC surround speakers hooked up to it. The sound was good but i always felt it could be better. In particular, the biggest problem was that I had to turn my Marantz up almost to the point of single digits to get that loud immerse sound while watching a blu ray.

I always assumed it was just the speakers. So a few weeks ago my wife buys me a new turntable to replace the one that's been broken for the last 3 years. I hook it up to a pre amp, hook that up to the Marantz and get ready to be rocked out except I don't. It's even less loud than when I watch a blu ray.

Again I assume it's just the speakers. So I've had my eyes on the Pioneer SP-BS22's for a while now and decide that it's the perfect excuse and reason to finally upgrade, These speakers sounded amazing at Best Buy and have gotten nothing but stellar reviews across the board so I figure it's a win win situation.

I hook them up and to my chagrin it's not that much louder, in fact I'd bet that it's pretty much the same volume as my other speakers. and again I have to CRANK my Marantz all the way to the single (currently set at -9)dbs to get it to sound even remotely loud especially when I listen to my turntable.

What am I missing? There is obviously some component or setting I'm missing because I figure with this setup I should be getting noise complaints from the neighbors if I really wanted to.

When during the year does Marantz introduce their new models? I am hoping that they introduce a new High End Receiver that will be above the SR-7007 with Audyssey XT32 and LFC.

Something definitely doesn't sound right and have you tried a reset on the receiver. The only other thing I can think of is make sure the source level is not in the negative.
Love 3D technology and am addicted to it.
