Hi all - New to the boards! Nice meeting everyone.
I have a 46' panasonic plasma television and a collection of about 500 DVD's. I have noticed that the prices of blu-ray players, specifically the Panasonic - Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Upconversion has gone down in price. My main question though is this: is it worth investing the money on this player if my television only has a 720i resolution? I have spoken with individuals at Best Buy and they say it will make a difference but I wonder if they are simply trying to make a sale. I am married with two young kids, so I know my wife won't go for getting the 1080p television any time soon and surround sound is moot in our home with the little ones. But it seems as if the prices are right and since you can watch DVD's on the blu-ray, it seems like a good time! Josh |

Do you think HD broadcasts look better than SD on your set? While the jump from DVD to BD is not usually as dramatic, I think it's still quite apparent. We have a 50" plasma (768p) and I pretty much limit my viewing to HD sources because they all look so much better.
The quality of DVD upscaling varies widely among players. So, you should do some window shopping to compare. 768p. You should probably feed it 1080i and let it downscale to 768. |

Hi all - this has been so helpful...I am not sure what the model # is but we bought it about 15 months ago. I am eager to purchase the blu-ray and most of this feedback looks like that would be a good idea...

To sum it up easily for you, the television is going to look great with a blu-ray player if you are watching blu-rays. It's true that blu-ray players have different upconversion chip sets, but over all blu-rays players up-convert pretty well now.
Get yourself a blu-player and enjoy life and movies.
