Or just match the deals when other stores (Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc.) offer them?
I'm trying to think of the last non-lightning deal Amazon offered on its own, without a little prompting (and even when matching, they sometimes refuse -- Super 8 being the most recent example). I got my $7.99 blus through them (clicking the ads here, to help support the site), but they were only matching Best Buy's. I went to Best Buy to get the $9.99 blus for $4.99 with the U&S. |

For the most part, they are now price followers, not leaders.

They still have occasionally good Deals of the Day and Blu-ray Deals of the Week. I don't mind them following everybody's lead and then price matching since I don't have to pay Amazon tax (for now) and I have a Prime Membership. I usually just wait a few days until Amazon matches the price and then get it there. That's what I did recently for Rome and Deadwood complete series sets. Saved me about seven or eight bucks in tax over Best Buy.

Amazon used to be very competitive with Blu prices. Usually, unbeatable. I pre-ordered everything from them, never really even doubting their price would be the cheapest, or match the cheapest, at launch. Not anymore. |
