3. I can modify them if i wish--those annoying minute long english credits with no sound after the japanese credits on most sentai episodes are removed, i can mux between releases (say the imported japanese blus have better video but no subtitles, i mux in the english subs from the domestic us release, resyncing the subs if needed), and i know exactly what is in what (soooo many older dvd releases have duplicated audio tracks or subtitle tracks due to weird mastering--i have a python app that checks for duplicate track checksums and sizes to clean everything up)

the only problem i'm running into now is lack of space

and yes, i would buy it from aniplex were they ever to release it!

I recently had a Disc Rot discovery on my Blood+ Part 1 Box set with all 6 discs suffering from it. Not a nice thing to learn considering the rarity of the set and it's value. I was able to make backups of discs 1,2,3 and 5 but unfortunately Disc 4 wouldn't even play and while Disc 6 does play I'm unable to make a backup as not enough of the disc is salvageable to do so sadly. Fortunately Disc 6 is just some interviews and Disc 4 was released seperately also as a Volume so I've bought another copy of that in the hopes it'll be in good enough condition to rescue and make a backup.

Blood+ is one of my favourite ever Anime series, hopefully the Sony buyout of Funimation might mean they can do a rerelease of this series. Especially since the show was supposedly mastered in HD and may very well be a HD Native series as it's certainly one of the better looking shows I've got on DVD and it was around this time period that more shows got the HD treatment.

Hmm, I better check my Blood+ sets - that is one of the first anime series I ever watched, and that series in particular was pretty much responsible for getting me hooked on anime when I was already over 50 years old, lol...

I recently bought blood+ off ebay, and part 1 was completed rotted so I had to return it.

I'd definitely check your sets.

It was you that got me to check mine and discover the unfortunate news. So Blood+ Part One definitely seems like it has some major Disc Rot issues.

Just checked mine, and I do see some milky-ness on discs 1 & 2, and barely discernible milky-ness on 3 & 4. Disc 5 looks to be unscathed. I don't have the sixth disc in my set, the seller didn't offer it. I'm copying my discs out to my hard drive totally uncompressed right now so I can burn 1:1 identical backup copies for myself out to dual-layer DVDs. Better safe than sorry.

Disc 2 has the most deterioration for me, but it scanned through and copied Ok, thankfully:

So it seems Blood+ is prone to rotting then. That's really bad considering how rare it is

Man that is pretty ominous for all these sets out there. I really hope my replacement copy of Volume 4 is in good enough condition to be turned into a backup.

Curious if the volumes are going to be okay since vols 2,3,4 were all released after the Box Set for Part One.

The annoying thing is though that these DVD Box sets are the only way to get all the show as they didn't release all of it separately.

yeah, they only made the first 4 discs in the volume releases, and then stopped releasing any more, so they are an incomplete set.

Disc rot, bleh. Sadly, my pc doesn't have bd reader so i can't copy, and all my dvd's are scratched to hell (Most were bought as a teen, and cases tossed out of boredom.) Thankfully my BD's look good.

Im seriously worried about the Funi acquisition by Sony though, other than Playstation, Sony as a brand is not in a good position.

I haven't been through my collection in a while so I can't think of any anime discs that this has affected, but my original Sleeping Beauty Special Edition disc was hit pretty badly. It won't play in widescreen anymore, only fullscreen (and considering how that movie was made in 2.55:1, that's a nightmare ). I couldn't even get it to backup, it would just hang on that particular title and refuse to continue. Of course, you can always count on The Big Mouse to release another edition, so I just had to wait until the blu-ray came out for a replacement.

I also seem to get hit pretty often with badly pressed dual layer DVDs right off the shelf, and have gotten to the point where I can flip one over and tell a defective one right away and know to return it. Just look for the weird swirl lines.

After hearing everyone on here talk about their Blood+ set, I just checked mine. I bought it last year but didnt check the discs right away. Lots of scratches on mine but no disc rot so far. But seeing several people having issues with theirs has me worried. Will have to find a way to scan it on my laptop just in case. One of my favorite anime. Plus such a rare set too.

I dont see a bluray anytime soon. I know Sony had it here but Aniplex has it in Japan. And from what I know Japan does not have a bluray of it. I dont see a chance of it anytime soon unfortunately.
