It's well documented a good number (if not all) of Resen's releases, burned and pressed, are illegitimate, so even if this is confirmed licensed the suspicion is entirely justified.

All Resen releases are bootlegs.

http://www.brentonfilm.com/articles/...-rays-and-dvds

This is what the owner of Twilight Time said:
Quote:
“…every Resen release of a TT title is an unequivocal bootleg – piracy is absolutely pandemic and the studios are really powerless to police it or stop it. The fault lies also with collectors who support the bootlegs and the companies that produce them, and in so doing contribute to the downfall of the hobby they profess to love.”

It's gonna suck if those LG discs ever suffer from rot like many of their others have.

Isn't The Monster Squad licensed to IDA films in Spain? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093560/...?ref_=tt_dt_co) They have released this on Blu-ray 2 weeks ago.

I own a large amount of Lionsgate discs and have only ever had one fail on me. The Original Saw release from 2006. Lionsgate fixed their production problems long ago. Most people experiencing issues these days are due to wonky BD-Live/Java implementation. Turning off your network connection in the player fixes these issues. Monster Squad owners have nothing to worry about... certainly no more than any other release from any other studio (including Criterion).

Got this when it wasnt out of print. Gave it a watch and at the end it frooze. Checked the disc 2 small bubbles on the edge. No way im paying $50 to replace it. Never had this problem before other then house lf 1000 corpses. Makes me wonder how many other discs have this type of problem. Sucks that it plays fine up until the last 5 minutes.

After checking on Ebay day after day for the last few months, I finally found a decent deal on a brand new copy of the Lionsgate release.... $26 shipped!

I'm glad I'm never selling my Lionsgate release. Glad you got one though even though that's quite expensive.

EDIT: I bought it in late 2010 for only $8 in-store when it was still in print.

To the people who own the US Lionsgate.....does it come in an eco box viva elite case? I got mine off Ebay "new and sealed" and just want to make sure it's not a repack job. I thought the eco cases were kinda new, have they been around since 2009? Pics of the inside case would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I watched my Olive Films Blu-ray of The Monster Squad last night, and I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting this movie.

I previously owned the old Lionsgate DVD edition of The Monster Squad that had all of the extras, so I'm at peace with owning the bare bones Olive Films Blu-ray, since I've seen the extras, or at least most of them, before.

The picture quality on the Olive Films disc looks pretty great to me. I do not have the other Blu-ray to compare, but it looks a heck of a lot better than my old DVD did.

This is a fun slice of the 1980s, although it was released just barely past my time, since I was in 10th grade when it came out in theaters, and I initially dismissed it as just a kids' film. (It's a lot more language-heavy than your average kids' movie. Haha.)

I found this Blu-ray for eight dollars at a used Blu-ray store, so I'm quite happy with what I've got.
