I'd just like to have it for posterity reasons(Like TOT of SW).
Regular cut as in...? To me the UK BD is the regular cut as it is how it was shown in UK and European cinemas (France being an exception). If you mean the US theatrical there is only VHS and pre-10th Anniversay laserdiscs.

4K scan, please. Make mine unscrubbed and hold the teal'n'orange, thanks!

Yes, US. I probably have that laserdisc. I know I have the DC on laserdisc. Thanks for confirming my worse suspicions. I kind of wish they could go back and put in the scene where Connor is showing Brenda the sword in bed. It is kind of sad they took out the "I want to go home" line. Kind of like a soldier after making it through a conflict.

Taken from HD Goofnut's List of International BDs with Better PQ, AQ, and/or More Extras thread:

Highlander
US - DTS-HD MA 5.1, Fewer extras
UK - DTS-HD MA 2.0 & 5.1, more extras (Region free)

I believe the U.K. edition was also less processed and retains more of the film grain look. Given the above, I grabbed the U.K. edition...

I also bought the UK version and plan on upgrading the disc holder in my Immortal Edition DVD set to hold it eventually. I definitely enjoyed it and the extras. It was interesting actually watching Lambert speak French during the interview. I'd never seen him do that in the almost 30 years I've seen his acting.

I also imported the UK version (in steelbook), and I must say I'm quite happy with it.

This really needs a 4K scan.

It seems like the film was scanned at 2K because some of the scenes look great, but then others are horribly compressed, which leads me to think that the studio making the Blu-ray master didn't supervise the transfer process.

They need to scrap this version and start with a 4K scan and do some new color timing as well. The special effects would look much better if they toned it down. Do we really need to see energy leaving the guy's body and turning on the car? Isn't that implied? We've come so far in film-making...

What's a decent price to pay for the UK steelbook of this film?

if I am not mistaken, all releases are the Director's/Europe Cut. I think the only place you can see the original North American version is on tv. If you see a guy flipping during the first fight at Madison Square Gardens, it is the director's cut. I know thought that the release here in Canada is 1.78/1.85 instead of the original 2.35(approx sizes) so that probably has a lot to do with the quality. The quality on these releases always makes me laugh - with the one version of the Highlander 3 dvd, the video quality on the English version is pretty bad but they also have a French version on it(French credits, etc) and it is way better. not sure why something like this would happen but I can watch the French version with the English soundtrack(they are not locked to the specific version). you wouldn't think there would be that kind of difference in quality between releases.

ah, never mind - found out it was listed wrong. something tells me that the original dvd release still had bars on the top and bottom but it might not have been formatted for 16x9 tvs since it was an early dvd. sorry for any confusion. thought it was weird that 1.85 was its aspect ratio but they released it as 2.35.
