Just saw this come across in an email:

Unfortunately, no date. And for those who were waiting well over a year for Allman Brothers - Brothers and Sisters to be released, it might scare you to put money on this title, but I'm glad to see more 90's music come out from MFSL.

I have been very pleased with MFSL SACD Miles Davis. Sketches Of Spain and 8itches Brew are superb. I considered them better than my Kind of Blue SACD by sony.

Awesome. I guess this means that my generation is turning into middle-aged men, when late-80s/early-90s groups like Pixies, Counting Crows, Tom Waits and now Weezer finally get the audiophile treatment. But I'm seriously excitied. MSFL's Doolittle is the best sounding SACD in my admittedly small collection.

Hopefully Pinkerton gets released in 24 bit quality too. Weezer's debut album and Pinkerton are two of the best rock albums ever made. The latest music they make is another matter altogether...

I stopped following their career after Make Believe.

Good article. Thanks for sharing that piece.

The Blue Album was great because they had no idea at the time what they even were going to be as a band, and the simply wrote and recorded some incredibly catchy pop rock songs that flowed incredibly well. It was genuine and it meshed well together. Pinkerton of course is the most raw and genuine record the band made, you can tell from the energy and the frankness of a lot of the lyrics. It was such a u-turn from their debut but in a perfect way that was an evolution of the band.

Then they disappeared for years as you well know. Cuomo had his mental breakdown after the bad response some gave Pinkerton. (Ironic, now that it is heralded as their best.)

The Green Album is a decently fun album but it's trying too hard to be a repeat of The Blue Album. Maladroit had some good songs on it, but they also seemed like they were trying too hard to change their sound specifically because they knew The Green Album was too much of a produced-attempt to rekindle their former success from their debut. Make Believe was, IMO, their best album since Pinkerton but it also sounded like it was being done from the producer's perspective more so than the band's. It just worked well as a good albeit highly-produced record. The Red Album was a mixed bag, some solid songs, some mediocre ones, and it was clearly an attempt (again) to revisit their more upbeat sound... but it didn't feel too innovative. It was merely a fun, decent album. Raditude was bizzare and not in a good way. Again, some good songs, but mostly it felt like a bad attempt to become even more mainstream with no real emotion at all. Then Hurley came alone. Hurley is a disaster in creativity. Some of the songs are catchy, but that entire albums reeked sellout disaster for the band. Now we are at their latest 'Everything Will Be Alright in The End'... and my initial impression is that the band is trying to convince everyone they are now the same band they were when they recorded their first two albums, and that this somehow qualifies as a mix between the two. I need to listen some more, but my initial impressions is that is sounds like the most artificial and over-produced attempt to be a album to please fans of both The Blue Album and Pinkerton. With none of the creative drive anymore.

I mean, come on, the band has made decent rock albums since their start, but the fire that led to their first two albums being considered rock classics is gone. And when a band names an album 'Hurley' to get paid a few million to promote a clothing line, it's rather ridiculous and just show's how dramatically different they are now from the independent Geffen records band that once recorded music together, literally, in their garage.

Very happy to see Clapton's Pilgrim coming to SACD from Audio Fidelity and hearing that they managed to seek out the original 24/96 un-eq'd files...this one has needed a good release for some time now.

Beach Boys and John Lennon coming to SHM-SACD. The BB is supposedly sourced from US analog tapes. Interestingly, the big BB SACD releases from Analogue Productions (to be mastered by Kevin Gray) over the Summer never materialized. Hm.

As for Lennon, it appears that these will be the 2010 hi-rez PCM to DSD transfers.
