correct that sony blu ray is a sound system. and yes that TV has separate volume control. so I toggle volume levels to my liking using both remotes, as TV sound is independent from soundbar and subwoofer (which is part of the sony bvd-f7)

Good, I was just making sure the TV is getting audio...if not, then no audio would output from the Optical out on the TV.

You should be golden. The try and see approach is better than wasting money on things you don't need!

also looking at the combo you want to get from amazon, you might need a set of red/white RCA cables...but those should not cost you more than a dollar...you might even have a set laying around your house.

Looking at the pics, it includes a red/white>3.5 jack, but I would use just a red/white analog cable (no 3.5 jack) from the D/A converter to the headphone base.
