It would be amazing if the steel book actually looked like that, but it is indeed a fan creation and therefore fake. Good job by the creator though:

I wasn't sure where to post this, there seems to be a few threads discussing the Zavvi exclusive, but this one seems relevant so I'll throw it here too. Mods, feel free to remove.

I tweeted Zavvi today, asking about when we can expect the mermaid steelbook to go live for preorder. I didn't expect much of a response, and luckily I wasn't disappointed. Maybe if we all bug them we'll get some information sooner rather than later though. Here's what I got:

"I am sorry, unfortunately we are unable to provide this steel book for you as we do not have any listed on site. Thanks"

I watched a 3D CGI-ed version of Part Of Your World at Disneyland, and it looked terrific !! Made me realize this will truly look stunning in 3D.

Was it that 4D ride where you go through all the famous Disney Renaissance scenes in CGI 3D with Donald Duck?!

Not that anyone's taking score, or anything, but it's a "4D" show in The Magic Kingdom park in the Walt Disney World Resort. It's called Mickey's Philharmagic, it's a 3D show coupled with spritzing the audience with water, smellovision, some steam-fog, and it's actually pretty cool. However, cool or not, in no way shape or form should this be a basis for how Little Mermaid 3D should look. Disney's 3D transfer process has nothing to do with the CGI used for the show.

In any case, who else got sent one of these?

Was the release pushed back? I don't want to change my order because I got it with the amazon coupon and, the last time I made any changes to an order like that (Wreck-It Ralph), I lost the coupon and wound up paying the full release price, thus pre-ordered for no real reason.

I haven't received that email either, but something strange does seem to be going on. There is no specific release date listed on Amazon anymore, no special features, and the region is clearly saying 1/A. All very worrying signs, I have import panic.

I got that email from Amazon too. I just left my preorder as is because I'm sure it'll come out eventually.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I got the same email for the 2-movie combos coming out in June. More than anything, there seems to be something weird in Amazon's system. For all three of the June films as well as The Little Mermaid, Amazon posted a release date before the official announcement by Disney. They then took those dates off the product pages likely because Disney wanted to make the announcement themselves. Since then, though, the dates have never come back up. The email is just an automated thing that sometimes goes out when there is an item that you have ordered a certain time ago that still has no estimated arrival time. I haven't figured out why it is sent to some and not to others, though. In any case, I don't see any reason to be concerned.

Amazon never had a release date when the pre-order went up as originally noted in post#1014 on April 20, 2013:
Quote:
even Amazon.com still has "This title has not yet been released." instead of the usual customary "This title will be released on 10/01/2013"
even though Disney did announce that it will be released, and FYI, the "no release date" email is a standard Amazon policy for all pre-orders that don't have a release date on their site. Once they do enter a confirmed release date the automatic notification will stop.

Also, if you cancel the early order with coupon, it will not apply in the future.

I stand corrected. I am still worried about the region lock though, being in the UK.

Disneystore.com still have "we expect this item to become available by 10/01/13" on the blu-ray's listing, which is positive.
