I saw and loved the musical in 1994 in Toronto. I was given the DVD when it first came out. While not as good as the actual musical, I did think it was one of the better musical to film adaptations. But I am still waiting to find it for less than $10 before making the upgrade to blu-ray.
Toshiba 40-inch 1080p TV; Sony BDP-S590, Panasonic DMP-BDT220 (back-up); Samsung HT-D330 (5.1 surround, DVD HT w/ region-free capability); Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 250gb w/ Kinect

This is true joy in life, the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourelf as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. - George Bernard Shaw

Are you opposed to used? Pretty sure it's relatively easy to find for less than $10 used.

I don't get the disappointment. I think the only real fault is Butler, but he is not as bad as some *cough*LesMes/Crowe* and a few of the notes that he shouts and obviously can't reach work in the context of the scene because of the intensity. I find most of the singing to be great, and the sets/scenery to be very detailed and ornate.
If you're reading this, you can read.

Not opposed to used, but it needs to be a source I can trust. I've been bitten before with illegal copies or damaged products and don't like the hassle of returning said items and getting refunds. I looked for it at a Blockbuster that is going out of business but they didn't have it.

Really? I find Gerard Butler's Phantom infinitely more offensive that Russell Crowe's Javert. Mostly because the entire point of the phantom character is his ability to sing...

understandable. There is a used store near my house that is insanely picky about condition. Everything they sell is "like new," and I'm pretty sure it was 6.99 there last time I saw it in stock. I'll keep an eye out for it, if you want. Not looking to turn a profit off of you or anything, just cover the price and shipping cost. If not, no big deal, but I'm in there all the time so I can look.

Found it today for $1.99 at a Blockbuster closing.
