Is the exclusive slip cover the only difference ?

That's what I want to know. Is Fox ever going to release the extended cut on Blu?

I doubt anything's happening with this movie again, until the 20th Anniversary in 2016.

It's the same old release as before inside, so I "reckon" there's no difference.

I got it during a sale and liked the slip. Like you, I was waiting for the extended cut and bonus features, but figured it might not ever come, so I grabbed it for cheap and got a nice slip as a bonus.

Better than nothing, I guess.

I want to hope they'll release something to tie into the release of Independence Day 2. It's gonna be interesting to finally see a sequel to this.

I turned my BD into a 3 disc set. Disc 1 is the theatrical BD. Disc 2 is the extended DVD. Disc three is the DVD extra disc. I'd love for a theatrical/extended bio on BD. But if not, I'm fine with what I have other than not having an outer wrap that lists all the discs (I just kept the standard BD wrap). Not all the extra scenes are needed but several make the movie better in my view.

The 20th anniversary is coming up in 2016. We can only hope.

I'd love to see this get a 4K remaster like Ghostbusters and Men In Black.

That is so awesome, I forgot about that lenticular slip. Brings back memories. Now the real question, what did you do with the VHS!

I have the original VHS with that same card, which had a nice little note from Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich on the back.

I had the Fox "Widescreen Series" VHS as well, which had an interesting (at the time) comparison video showing the benefit of widescreen versus 4x3. I took that video along with a behind the scenes featurette and recorded them to video files.

I don't care much for the extended version mainly because the scenes seem to have been dropped in without much care regarding the editing, and also because many of them are poorly acted (mainly the Casse Family scenes), while some scenes are well done but needed to be integrated a little better. Also they're in mono sound so the mixing is a bit jarring.

I took the extras DVD and put it with the Blu-ray and made a custom cover.
