Even without the 3D, it's one of my favorite Hitchcock films - I'd have easily paid more than $30 for the 3D version.

I finally have this and am watching it now, but what strikes me is the picture and 3d are a lot better than the review suggests, also I love the opening credits, which pop to about 50%, a lot further than any others I have seen.
Anyway, on with the show now... |

no doubt, this looks really good in 3D. I was skeptical because the 3D review sucks. WB did an excellent job with this. |

I was reading the review of this BD and was shocked to see that it was only 3 stars and it seemed like the reviewer didn't care much for. IMHO, this is a pretty amazing Hitchcock film and is one of my personal favorites. Not sure how anyone can not like this film.

HI,
Well, I have the BD 3D Dial M. I received it last week from Amazon. I am old enough to have seen it when it was first run in the 1950's but I didn't. To me, this is the most rational 3D movie I have seen yet. It's generally not flashy nor the does the 3D call attention to itself. It's very natural. Probably, you folks who love special 3D effects will not like it. It's just not flashy enough for your tastes. But for those of us who wish 3D to be an extension of our natural senses will love the way 3D is used. There is just one "pop-out" in the whole movie and it is very effective. I won't spoil it by telling you about it. Reviews have called it too wordy. It is wordy all right but in a very good way. I liked the movie, as a movie, very much. Hitchcock was great. See if you can find Hitchcock in the film. He appears in all his films in case you don't know. Be quick, he's not there very long. All in all, a good movie with good 3D. This is a great 3d movie. They dont write scripts like this anymore. The 3d is so natural, the dialog just brings you in, combined with the 3d I felt completely immersed in the story. Bravo.
Its a solid testament showing how 3d can be utilized with out crazy pops and effects. Thurs entire film (just about) takes place in a single room and relies on dialog, but ol Alfred was smart. Usually there is always something to gauge depth; a lamp, table, something is always there. Thumbs up from me! |

I've really been dying to get this, thinking of buying it this week but at $30 it better be some great 3D cause that's pretty steep. And the 3D for this hasn't received the best reviews.

I feel like maybe people who didn't give the 3D good reviews were people who take the attitude "good 3D = pop-outs"--I thought the depth was good throughout, and consistent (I hate the modern idea that there should be a "depth script" where the 3D is intentionally made more flat in less "dramatic" scenes). Note that the entire movie takes place indoors though, so the depth is basically "realistic" for what you would see in an indoor setting (but Hitchcock does do a good job of having furniture and other objects at all different depths in most scenes to create contrast)

I have the WB DVD and have not picked up the film on blu ray as of yet. Mainly due to the $30 price tag and lack luster transfer reviews of the blu ray.
Does anyone have the DVD to compare with the blu ray? Did they feel that the blu ray was an upgrade from the DVD? I don't have 3D so this would be a 2D comparison only. Thanks!
The Saint will return!

I got a 65" Panasonic 3-d set about 3 weeks ago and have bought quie a few 3-D discs of recent films. Since I am 68 years old, I'm quite familiar with 3-D titles from the 50s, having seen many in theatres. DIAL M FOR MURDER is the first Blu-Ray 3-D title where I've seen examples of "ghosting" or crosstalk, mostly in the scenes where the two male stars are wearing black dress suits. I'm not complaining, just pointing it out. Still a great film and the 3-D PQ is very impressive considering the age of the film....
