I thought about buying this set, but I just don't like the packaging (discs in cardboard book). Yuck! So I just bought the DVD set instead.

The UK set comes in blu-ray cases. You could import it.

You bought an extremely inferior product because you didn't like the packaging?

And as ink1026 already said, the UK version discs (region free) are in plastic amaray cases.

What is wrong with you? Are you serious? This has to be a joke!

Exactly.

I absolutely love the US packaging though. It's very classy, but to each their own. In this case there is the alternative UK packaging available, so there is no reason not to get this.

We live in a crazy and sad world.

It's a possibility.
Although I too watched the extended episodes for years and would've wanted them in blu-ray, I never to this day felt like watching the dvds just for that reason, the quality is too inferior.

@heineken
Just watch some of my videos on YouTube (signature) made from the blu-rays, even though the quality is reduced it's still miles away form the dvds.

Holy crap, you guys aren't kidding about the DVDs. They look like crap, and I'm no videophile.

I just ordered the UK blu-rays, since it has better packaging. If they at least look as good as they do on NickatNite, I'll be happy.

They look great. I also love the UK set - not only did I pay far less at the time I bought it than the US version was going for, it's in a nice, compact box with REAL plastic cases that fits great on a shelf. I could not have been more pleased.
If you have to whip out a microscope to decide if you like a Blu-ray or not, you are missing the point.

I ordered the U.S. set two or three years ago, and I was extremely happy at the time because of the booklet that came with the set. Not to mention, the price was slightly lower than the U.K set at the time. I remember debating for many days over which set to buy.

Now that some years have passed, I'm starting to wonder if I should've ordered the U.K. set instead. My U.S. copy takes up so much space, and the discs are a pain in the ass to take out each time I want to watch an episode. Plus, the box that holds the case inside, it busted on one side. The set that I own is also hard to display, the only place it really fits is on the bottom rack on my Blu-ray shelf, all by itself.

I was extremely disappointed in the video quality, it was very soft to me. I believe this was due to the cropping a 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9.

It varies from shot-to-shot.

Some scenes have no cropping at all (more picture information on all sides).

Some have cropping at the top or bottom of the frame with more information on the sides. Examples of this below.
