I noticed that Amazon Canada have a listing for a non Digibook version here:

http://www.amazon.ca/Sorcerer-Blu-ray/dp/B00I0QYA5M/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1392176919&sr=1-2&keywords=sorcerer

There's no image for it yet but it can't be for the new DVD release as that has a seperate listing at a cheaper price. Might be a mistake but good for anyone who doesn't want a Digibook release .

Really looking forward to the Blu-ray of Sorcerer. The only print of this I've seen was about 10 years ago on the old, pan & scan P.O.S. DVD. Great film, but terrible print.

I've also seen Wages of Fear (the French film this is based on), and that's a good film as well. I will have to reserve judgement on which is the better film until after I see this forthcoming Blu Sorcerer, however...

I bought the Signature Series edition of Friekin's The French Connection this past weekend, and enjoyed that trip down memory lane. Revisiting that movie got me psyched up about this upcoming Sorcerer release.

After receiving assurances from Friedkin personally via Twitter that there is a UK & Europe release for this, there still isn't a release date?

Is the April 22nd release date a worldwide release and a region free disc?
Blu Ray wants: Spirit of the Beehive / Chilly Scenes of Winter / Thief (Mann) / The Gambler (Reisz) / To Live and Die in L.A. / The Magnificent Ambersons / Scarecrow (Shchatzberg) / Fingers (Toback) / Last Embrace (Demme).

Looking forward to this, Roy Scheider is one of my favorite actors. He was so criminally underrated.

It certainly isn't a worldwide release date. Don't know about region free though, as I am, so I ordered day one. It has been suggested that it'll be region free, but I don't think that there's been a confirmation.

Looking at the Back Cover now available on blu-ray.com product page, it seems the BD will be barebones...

I don't recall the dvd having any notable extras? Still a shame. I always view this a missed opportunity, when catalog titles don't get, at the least, some sort of commentary or retro documentary from surviving cast/crew.

Friedkin said there would be a commentary track recorded, and I imagine he'd want to do one for this film, so I don't know why it wouldn't be included.

A tweet he made last year:

Quote:
I will do a commentary for Sorcerer, there will be a blu-ray
And extras; first, the theatrical.
This site also mentions a commentary track: http://www.furiouscinema.com/2013/12...ents-sorceror/

Quote:
BLU RAY: The upcoming release will include a newly remastered 5.1 Surround Sound Audio Mix as well as a commentary by Director William Friedkin and a 40-page Blu-ray DigiBook filled with images from the film and excerpts from the book, “The Friedkin Connection: A Memoir.” This will be something for longtime fans and collectors to treasure seeing the film’s incredibly turbulent history and the tremendous amount of effort that went into bringing it back into public view after decades of red tape and difficulties locating the original negative.

In all due respect to Friedkin who is a great director, if you've ever listened to one of his commentary tracks, you're not missing anything if it's not included. That is, unless you're blind and need to have someone describe blow-by-blow everything that's happening on screen.

Releases of Friedkin titles are often preceded by all sorts of claims from Friedkin himself that turn out not to be true. (Like his newly re-timed transfer of The Exorcist that was going to be used for the BD re-release, or the footage that had been cut on release from Cruising being re-incorporated into the body of the film for the DVD release a few years back.)

I'm disappointed, but not surprised, if this release proves to be no exception.

Such a pity. There are plenty of premises for some really interesting supplementary material.

Amazing director as he is, and I respect him for that, it does make me a little uncomfortable that he's so happy to constantly spew lies without any apparent remorse.

Ha, wow not a single extra not even a trailer. I guess the book is the extra as it will have production notes and tidbits I'm sure. Just the fact that we are finally getting this is good enough for me.

Not for me. I've cancelled my pre-order and will see what comes of this down the track. At worst, this will be the only release for a good while, but I reckon the existing digibook will be half its launch price by the end of the year.

Cover looks ok but not great, it's the movie I want to see in all its widescreen glory. As for the digibook format, at this rate I will be practically own Friedkins memoires, nice addition to the Exorcist edition.

Agreed - I have been waiting for a decent PQ & Anamorphic print of Sorcerer for years. Though this should have been released long ago, better late than never.

I'm probably in the minority here because I'm somewhat indifferent to extras on Blu/DVD, except for maybe trailers - one of my pet peeves is when a disc includes a large amount of extras except for the trailer. I don't have enough time to see all of the Blu's/DVD's I want anyway, so definitely can't spend time to see most of the extras. Trailers, however, can be interesting - they're short, and they sometimes include deleted scenes that weren't in the film.

That being said, even though this upcoming Sorcerer doesn't have the trailer this will still be awesome. One of the most underrated films of the '70's, from one of my favorite directors. 'Nuff said.

I'm with anamorphic on this one. I was already about as excited as I could've been about this release; extras would have been just that.
