The remainder of the story is told; thus bringing added meaning, insight and understanding to the events which took place in the first part of the film.

Sorry, not trying to sound flippant, but it's particularly true in the case of Cloud Atlas.
Most wanted Blu-ray releases: Ken Russell's 'The Devils' & James Cameron's 'The Abyss'

Thanks.

This title seems to be one I better rent first (and not blind buy)

I feel that goes for many people with this title (as opposed to Jack Reacher, which is more standard "cool-movie" fair, which is a safer blind-buy)

Jack Reacher has nothing over Cloud Atlas, it's like comparing apples to oranges.
Jack Reacher is a safe and predictable movie and you know what you're getting before you even watch it.
With me, I like the gamble of a blind buy, plus the fact that I can put the 6 bucks towards the movie that I otherwise would have spent on renting it.
There are at least 5 or 6 different stories all going on at ounce here, and I found them surprisingly easy to keep track of them all, but like any movie one misses details the first time around and that's even more so true with this movie. This makes it all the much more enjoyable to watch it the second time as you don't have to worry about missing anything _ you're there to pick up on things you may have missed.
I can almost guarantee that you're going to want to watch it again, if for nothing else, like a kid who wants a story read to them over and over again; even better if there's a cold rain outside with a big mug of hot chocolate in hand.
If you don't blind buy it, I am pretty sure that you will be renting it again _ I guess it all depends on how expensive your movie rental place is I guess.

CLoud Atlas was my 2nd favorite film of 2012. Jack Reacher was the 2nd Worst film of 2012. CA strives for such grand ideas and consistently surprises ad impresses you with every minute. Jack Reacher is tedious, boring, predictable and by the numbers andnot once is it ever impressive or new.

I guess if you like your movies predictable and pretty much something you see all the time then go with JR. if you like interesting unique epics with big ideas go with CA

No one in the history of movie making can make someone look older accurately with make up. EVER!

Yes when you judge the first 45 minutes of a 3 hour movie, you can totally tell that it blows. This movie require full attention the whole effing time. even on the 5th viewing.

This is a whole piece that must be rewatched to find the many threads. THis has so much going on it is unreal. The theme is how we are all connected even to the future. Parallel universes interest me so I loved it. Not saying it is parallel.

You will have to watch and watch again. After my 5th viewing I still noticed something different (
[Show spoiler]Tom hanks as the most futuristic owning the buttont that Greene found before

These directors and writers spent a lot of energy on this. It is a shame when some just don't give it a chance. I enjoyed it so that is all that matters to me. Too bad some do not have the attention span. I do not so that is why IU watched it 5 times....tonight might be six but I also need a break.

I finally watched it last night. Like most people here, I was reminded of "The Fountain" while watching it. Unlike most people here, I thought that "The Fountain" was a much better film.

I know that I'm in the minority here, but I'd recommend renting before buying. I did enjoy it, but I regret it as a blind buy.

I have no idea why you're accusing me of not giving the movie a chance. Au contraire, I like it a lot. Even more so I'm not blind to obvious shortcomings which become even more apparent on subsequent viewings.

Django Unchained was a fun movie ! That's all I am going to say about that as this is the CA thread. Mine is "Rise Of The Guardian's" _ I'm a sucker for animated fantasy CGI and I found ROTG the most beautiful ones yet as many other good things. A screen can't be too big for a movie like that, the same goes for CA.
It would have been an interesting project for Cloud Atlas to have been animated, of course if it was many people would have not taken it seriously.

A friend of mine from a while ago now had a wiener dog and it would eat pretty much anything put in front of it's face.
There was a bowl full of grapes on the table and the chairs weren't pushed in all the way on that particular day, the guy was out for a while and he returned home with an empty bowl full grapes and a desperate dog that could barely wait to get outside.
The dog ate the grapes whole. he said "you could see and feel the grapes inside the dog"
