Live action/CGI: Hobbit...gorgeous stuff.
Animation: Madagascar 3 (outrageous color with pop outs seemingly every scene and great depth. The one to use as a show piece for doubters.) No 'bad' ones yet, but Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate while decent 3D is difficult to enjoy the depth and tricks while trying to read the titles. :-) Tech issues: POTC On Stranger Shores...looked great but couldn't get it to play beyond ch 7...freezes and stops'n'gos. Returned to store. |

Resurrecting an old thread, but I'm definitely saying Titanic and Hugo. Both followed closely by House of Wax and The Amazing Spider Man.

I really didn't like the 3D in that one. Thought it was non-existent most of the time.

Instead of rehashing the same titles already mentioned.... I'm going to give some love to Legend of the Guardians Owls of Gahoole. Having to "screen" kid title after kid title to see if they are appropriate for my kids at their age, I'd have to say this one surprised me a lot. Despite it probably being a tad too scary for my kids to watch at least for another year or two, I came away extremely impressed both story and 3D presentation wise.

Just got 3D a couple of weeks ago with my new Samsung Tv. I actually wasn't interested, but my wife thought it would be fun for friends and kids.
Overall, I'm pretty blown away by the home viewing experience of 3D. I've gotten a few 3D movies - Avatar, Gravity, Madagascar 3, SpongeBob 3D, Lego Movie, and How to Train Your Dragon 2. I've been reading lots of reviews - making sure I'm only upgrading movies in my collection worth the 3d upgrade, and, of course, looking for some fun, demo worthy discs. Look forward to your recommendations. Thanks in advance! ![]()

Anyone know if Netflix rents 3d movies? I would consider adding physical discs for that.

If you want to go to another level, check out House of Magic. It's a smaller-scale European made film, not exactly Pixar quality, but it's pleasant enough, and you will not find stronger 3-D anywhere, and it's all very well integrated into the story. There are quite a few animated films with good 3-D, but this is the one I recommend above all others. ![]() Live action films: Hugo is very special film, I highly recommend it. I've never been a fan of Brendan Fraser, but Journey to the Center of the Earth is a fun thrill-ride that makes excellent use of 3-D. You should definitely check out at least one of the golden age 3-D films. The 3-D is consistently stronger than most modern efforts. I'd recommend either House of Wax or Kiss Me Kate as the best starting point. Inferno is also very good, and there's also 3-D Rarities which is a showcase of short films of varying quality dating from the silent era up to the 60s. A few other things I recommend: David Attenborough: The 3D Collection - Excellent set of 3d nature documentaries, and good value, there's a lot of content here. Cloudy-Chance-Meatballs-Monster-House-Open-Season-Blu-ray 3d+box+set These are good value and mostly pretty good, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in particular is a very funny film, a lot better than I expected it to be. |

Find a film that they like/love with great 3d and use that.
As a general recommendation, Hugo, Life of Pi, Avatar and something like Inferno to show that older films also exist in the format that look splendid.
