Blu Ray Girl, I realize what youo're trying to say but I don't listen to what anyone says about Hollywood accounting because it's commonly known that Hollywood overinflates the costs associated with the production and budget of every film, television series and music album so that (on paper) they never make money.
The reason why I said this is that movie studios keep claiminig that on films such as "Star Wars", "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Transformers" trilogy, "Avengers" and so on that have never turned a profit, despite making hundreds of millions, billions of dollars in profit. Movie studios don't greenlight movie sequels based on profits earned after the budgets are figured in. They greenlight movies based on how much they are taking in, according to box office receipts. How else do you explain the recent news that "Oz" has just been greenlit for a sequel, despite only being out for a very short time. I understand what you're saying about budgets but that Hollywood has such a corrupted view on what they deem as successful movies that I'm curious how they think that anyone believes their accounting methods. Hollywood accounting for movie productions is just a joke in itself. I seem to recall this all coming to public light during Peter Jackson's fight with New Line over their accounting practices for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and how they tried to get out of paying him what they owed him for his work on that film trilogy. I believe they only ended up compensating him after news started coming forth that they wanted to produce the "Hobbit" and that there was a lot of support for only Peter Jackson to produce and direct the adaption of "The Hobbit". While sequels for "The Golden Compass" are probably dead in the water, I do know that the principles involved in "Jumper" and "I Am Number Four" want to move forward with sequels but that the timing isn't right. I suspect that when Hollywood gets over its fetish with "remakes", "reboots" and movie adaptions of popular television shows, that we'll probably see these studios going back and taking a look at greenlighting these movies that they had put on the backburner. |

No, I don't like to argue, I'm just aware of the problem regarding how Hollywood greenlights sequels and how many lawsuits and court fights that directors and producers have filed against studios for their accounting practices.
Blu Ray Girl, the latest dust-up over Hollywood's accounting practices involves Paramount and 29 of their investors over movies that their investors help fund. Paramount is embroiled in this lawsuit because of their funny and irregular accounting practices to which they haven't paid out a single dime. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201...o-return.shtml All I'm saying is that sequels aren't greenlit based on profits generated after a movie recoups all of their losses, they are greenlit by their box office performance. I would recommend searching techdirt.com for other related issues because they do report on Hollywood's method of not compensating those involved with their films. Even blockbuster films like The Hunger Games, Harry Potter and Twilight have similar problems. The only reason it hasn't become an issue is that nobody has looked deeper into the profits generated from these film franchises. I'm sure everyone has heard of Peter Jackson's dustup with New Line over payment he hadn't received from Lord of the Rings. I think another reason why Summit isn't pushing any problems with The Hunger Games is that the film series seems to mirror that of the original Japanese horror film, Battle Royale, which was produced in 1999. |

I was talking about Hunger Games when I started reminescing about these other franchises that Summit could acquire. That's when Blu Ray Girl and HD Goofnut started talking about studios, budgets and advertising.
I only said that studios greenlight sequels based on Box Office performance. lols Think some got too carried away with this. lols |

The Hunger Games is $15.24 right now. Not a bad price. I'm hoping it drops lower, though.
