Shouldn't the film have had washed colours and heavy grain then? That is what I associate with B-Spaghetti Westerns, not blurred edges and a lack of depth.

Shaft type movies, not spaghetti westerns.

So he wanted to make a Spaghetti Western that looked like a piece of cheap blaxploitation? I don't get it... Well I do get it, but I don't like it.

Well, to be fair, Django Unchained is essentially a love letter to spaghetti westerns and blaxploitation. But I don't think there's anything wrong with the image at all. It looks very crisp and detailed to me, with gorgeous colors and a nice tight grain field.

Just watched the BD for the first time last night and liked it a bit better than when I first watched it on TV - either because it was a second viewing or because the BD was that much better. In either case, it's an impressive film - if maybe a wee bit long?

It's a pretty common criticism that the film needed to lose it's last act, ending during the big gunfight. However that last act is what shows Django has become as strong as the man who trained him, and as smart as him too. That's an essential part of the movie. There's just nowhere Tarantino could have trimmed, really.

I love the movie, like 4.5/5 love,
[Show spoiler]but I wish Django had been the one to end Candie, instead of Dr. Schultz basically committing suicide and leaving Django and his wife in a very bad situation afterwards. Had there been one shootout with Schultz and Django vs. the Canyland staff, with Schultz dying in the process and Django having to track down Stephen and someone else who took Broomhilda and ran, that would have been cooler to me.
But what the hell do I know? Tarantino's a lot smarter than I am, and I love his vision the way it is.
Top 10: 1. The Dark Knight 2. The Shawshank Redemption 3. Pulp Fiction 4. The Empire Strikes Back 5. The Departed 6. The Lord of the Rings 7. No Country For Old Men 8. The Lion King 9. District 9 10. Saving Private Ryan

No, I wasn't referring to ending it sooner (remember, I said "maybe a wee bit long?"). But perhaps some tighter writing could've shaved/saved some time here and there - I mean, 2:46 is a tad long for the story told. For example, after the big 'splosion, things could've moved right along - and what was with the horse prancing? When did he have time to train his horse and, in context, who cares? But, a damn fine film and Christoph Waltz was fantastic - as was Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio.
