The new report says it's video output is 1200p and 1440p...

In regards to the proposed 720 report, from my perspective it looks like MS only wants gaming to be a small piece of the equation. It's certainly ambitious, I'll give them that. However nothing about these specs get me particularly excited from a gaming perspective. I'd say if you're a current 360 owner/supporter then you are naturally going to want to transition over to the 720. I mean why not? If you're happy with the 360 model why wouldn't you? You have full backwards compatibility with 360 content. I'm sure your current Live account will transition over to the 720 without a hitch. You have a more powerful system (though looking at the specs, its not quite as robust as I would've liked). Plus MS looks to ever increasingly expand their "one box solution for everything" business model.
From what I see, it also looks like MS will continue with their heavy dependence on 3rd parties for the majority of their gaming content. Personally I don't like that strategy because when you're so reliant on 3rd party cross platform titles, you do not get anything that's coded "close to the metal" to take full advantage of the system's capabilities. It's like the old PC strategy where games are coded to the lowest common denominator to ensure it runs on the greatest number of hardware configurations. I'm sure MS will continue to pay for such things as timed exclusive DLC and whatnot. However I would much rather see them put those resources towards internal development for exclusive IP's. I will be interested in seeing what Sony's strategy will be for PS4. Personally, I don't give a crap about all the multimedia mumbo jumbo. I want a powerful GAMES machine first and foremost. I hope Sony still keeps this in perspective and makes that their #1 priority for PS4. If I had to break it down in simple terms, here's how I see MS and Sony... MS strategy: Multimedia>Online>Gaming. Sony strategy: Gaming>Online>Multimedia. Sorry but I don't want a multi-media box. I want a machine that puts gaming at the highest priority. All of the other bells and whistles can be there but if they're not, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me because there are just too many other avenues you can easily get those services through. However there's only one place I can play God of War or Uncharted or Gran Turismo. I want gaming to be the primary foundation of the system.

If these specs are not fake I'll do like one of the commenters, I'll probably eat my elbows
1200 and 1440p? For which TVs are those resolutions? Not one but -two- 6 cores procs at 3,1 Ghz ? 5Gb (not 4, or 6Gb - which always works better - cf Dual channel)? One of the most damning example: LR-DIMM ram. Really? SERVER memory, meant to be scalable up to 144Gb+ per processor? Can someone explain to me why this is needed on a Video game CONSOLE? Other reason why this is retarded: 16Gb DDR3 = approx $90 16Gb DDR3 LR DIMM = approx $300 See the problem? ![]() Last idiotic element: support of 22.2 audio surround, because clearly 7.1 is not enough. RIGHT? ![]() P.S: and with all that, still no WiFi No seriously guys, could we -not- discuss those specs as if they were serious? (same as the PS4 ones that "leaked" from Japan a few weeks ago, curiously enough with the same kind of "weird" 4K resolution outputs and 22.2 audio channel outputs)

22.2 channel audio is ... well, you know ... someone on crack, and the 1200/1440p was the stuff of pipe dreams 2 years ago. Now ... it's merely the stuff of $25.000 projectors. The specs (can't say for the rest of the 56page document) are obviously false.

No offense dude but, damn doesn't that shit get old to you after a while? Wouldnt' you rather Nintendo invest in coming up with some new creative IP's instead re-hashing that shit over and over?

Miyamoto is a creative guy. I'm sure he could create some great new Nintendo IP's if they wanted him to. You'd think with their stock price so low they'd take some risks rather than more of the same.

I think they'll cave in. Blu-ray for next-gen games is essential. Microsoft would be fools to continue with DVD9.
Letterboxd: http://letterboxd.com/tigertron/
Blu-ray Wishlist: Rush Hour 2, US version of The Island, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, After the Sunset, Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights. PS3/Xbox 360 wishlist: GTAV, The Last of Us, Saints Row IV, Beyond: Two Souls and Remember Me. |

From what I've read, it'll have a BD drive, but it won't support movie playback. If true, then they don't have to pay any licensing fee (similar to the Wii with the DVD drive). It'd be a major slap in the face to consumers of course, and just another sign of MS being sore losers in the HD format war.
