That movie looks really good but I doubt I'll watch it in theater. Is it the worst product placement you've seen?

There's an entire sequence where Ben Stiller remembers his passed away father, by looking at a Papa John's cup, in a Papa John's restaurant, in the middle of Iceland.
Remaining Films of 2014 I'll check out: Nightcrawler. Mr. Turner. Interstellar. The Drop. The Imitation Game. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. Horrible Bosses 2. Men, Women and Children. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Dumb and Dumber To. Exodus: Gods and Kings. Big Eyes. Unbroken.
Best Films of the Year so far: Boyhood. Calvary. Frank. Godzilla. Gone Girl. The Rover. The Raid 2. The LEGO Movie. Under the Skin.

I'm more distracted when the characters drink Brand X generic cola or they go out of their way not to show any brand names.

Also, there's a difference between a scene taking place at an IHOP and James Bond looking down at his Sony Ericcson GPS for way too long when it's showing that his final destination is directly in front of him.

I agree with this 100%. I would much rather see a real product placed in a scene than a generic made-up can that just says "cola" on it. That will take me out of the movie way faster.

+1!
It's a question of balance. Back in the day, people cringed at generic crap, wishing they'd use real stuff. But like Samus Aran intimated, some movies go way beyond the pale and it's almost like a damn commercial break.

Can you get intense memories from looking at a Papa John's cup in a Papa John's restaurant anywhere or does it have to be in Iceland?

I'm interested to try but it sounds heavy.

Well considering Papa John's is an American restaurant, I was a bit shocked to see it appear where it does.

Or like on older movies and TV shows, where they would just turn all the products around so the labels wouldn't be facing the camera.

After 3,500 votes Man of steel is the best comic book film of the year (by a large margin too)

Not entirely, considering so many people are disappointed with it. 3500 votes hardly represents the hundreds of millions of people who actually saw the film.

I dunno. It might actually be the most loved comic book based film of the year but it is also without a doubt the most hated at the same time.

Are you kidding? Taking a little liberty, are we? I think "hundreds of millions of people who actually saw the film" is just a wee bit of an exaggeration (although it did rake in "hundreds of millions of" bucks), yes?

I think being the best comic book film of 2013 will not be any huge achieve in retrospect anyway when considering the competition.

Plus isn't that poll a bit of a loaded question, doesn't seem all that fair.
