Finally watched my "Edge of Darkness" disc and though it was a pretty middling movie not worth owning. I got it for $5 though, because I was a big Mel Gibson fan, so I barely lost any money compared to a rental.

Ive probably said this before but -

Only God Forgives (thought it was bad, then realised it was awful) - sold on after 20 minutes of a second watch.

The Place Beyond the Pines steelbook (just very very average and Ill never watch it again) - sold on next day.

300: Rise of an Empire 3D steelbook (just not good enough to keep - sold on quick - Ill probably get the 300 double set though).
I'm running this monkey farm now Frankenstein!!! And I want to know....what the **** you are doing with my time?!!!

I hear you on The Place Beyond the Pines and 300: Rise of an Empire as I sold both of those, but Only God Forgives is awesome. IMHO it's the best art type film of 2013.

Haven't seen the 300 sequel (also skipped the original based in part on the cover art - Butler looks like he's about to receive oral sex) but I agree with you on the other two. Thankfully someone lent me a bootleg of Only God Forgives so I was able to dodge a blind buy. I loved Refn's other film DRIVE but I thought this was unwatchable. Beyond the Pines was OK, slightly overrated, but not worth owning. It was just too run of the mill. I thought it tried to hard to be artsy.

Usually I'm down with the old school, but for this title the old one just drags and bores. I'm sure it was shocking in the 70's, today it's a good alternative to sleeping pills. The remake at least moved.

Thumbs down

I remember this was a highly anticipated film for me(love westerns...not at all a good western )

I ordered 1 thru Target/bought 1 from the store also(luckily I was able to return both ) b/c I thought this would be a great exclusive...was deeply worse blind-buy for me so far to this date!

I enjoyed the remake but it's an ugly film, and the blu-ray looks awful. I'm not sure if it should look that bad or not, but the blu-ray is extremely dark to the point where it's hard to see what's going on, and the colors throughout are ugly. Lots of green/teal tinting.

It's an ugly movie. It looked just as dark in the theater from my recollection. Not sure about the tinting though.
