While a nice sentiment, it's extremely naive. In the first place, the technology isn't even 7 years old yet. Improvements to "what's technically feasible" are occurring almost daily. That's the nature of technology - it moves forward. No one's forcing you to buy anything, it's not a conspiracy (except when they release an old version with a confusing cover just before a new transfer is released - a'la the remastered Terminator). And, unfortunately, the notion of an exchange program is equally naive. The profit motive is what drives companies to invest in making improvements to existing "product". Without it, we'd be stuck with crap versions of things until a whole new delivery system arrived (4K discs and beyond). As for felidela's "army of loyal fans" notion ... Please!

I just bought this used at Movie Stop. The actual discs (art) look the same as the old version. Is this correct? What's an easy way to know I actually got the remastered version and that someone didn't swap the disc?

The remastered version of the Blu Ray has a picture of Patton to the left hand side and the American flag behind him. It also says Disc 1: Feature Film + Special Features. The second disc (a DVD) also has an American Flag in the background but has tanks in the foreground. It says Disc 2: Additional Special Features (Standard Def Disc)

If my memory serves me correctly, the original release disc were tan or green and had stars on them.

Hope this helps you out

Did you happen to notice the great pictures that Joe Fisher posted a little bit before you?

Possibly he didn't! If you'd take notice of the 2 timestamps only being ~2mins apart.

Plus, there's nothing wrong with 2 helpful posts.

When I started typing that out someone else posted the pics. Didn't see that until after I had already posted my reply.

Bit of a pity — I much prefer the disc art of the first release.

(I know, I know, it's far from the important thing, but I'm just sayin' ...)

I guess they had to make them different for ease of distinguishing. But the originals fit better with the digibook.

Yeah, me too especially since the American flag is incorrect on the re-release since it has 50 instead of 48 stars.

I noted the time difference, but because true.harve is new, perhaps learning to check before you post is a good thing to learn - which is one of the reasons I type a response in word and then post it. In fact, I had drafted an answer with a couple of links, but after refreshing the page I saw that Joe Fisher had trumped my post with those great pix (worth 1000 words ), so, although frustrated, I dumped my post.
I didn't intend to be, and don't think I was being, nasty - but new guys have to learn. I sure had my share of posted corrections (and some not so nice) when I was new. All you can do is check. It just worked out for him that his answer not only was completely eclipsed by Joe, but the original poster was saying thanks at the very same time.

Excuse us for being imperfect.

Us? Dude, sorry you're so easily offended. No-one is perfect. Who was it who said "we learn by doing"? Oh, yeah, Captain Kirk - 'nuff said.

I've never seen Patton, but for $10, I decided to blind buy it.

And I have been fortunate to escape what has been called “that form of snobbery which can accept the Literature of Entertainment in the Past, but only the Literature of the Enlightenment in the Present.” - Raymond Chandler
