Right, after another repetitive, but fun, demo session I'm pleased to report that this puppy is indeed firing on all eight cylinders (counting the sub). The rear surrounds simply aren't active all of the time. During the Rex breakout, there's rain in the rear surrounds, but not when inside the Explorers, which doesn't seem terribly logical since rain isn't only heard from the front and sides when in a vehicle, but there it is. There's no music in this scene and in subsequent scenes music is also heard in the rear surrounds. I also tried the 2D disc and I was struck by how bright and colourful the image was (I still watched the 3D disc in 2D) in comparison. Definitely a cheerier presentation, less creepy, but they both have their place. I'd have to see the whole film on both discs to make up my mind. Not sure if the 2D disc 7.1 HD didn't really sound as good as the 3D 7.1 HD, but that was most certainly the case with the lossy 5.1 Italian track I tried for giggles. Quite apart from the terrible dubbing, it sounded so quiet, so inert, so inferior.

Does the 2D disc have Dolby HD and the 3D disc DTS HD?
Faster than a bullet from a gun. Closer to Heaven than to Earth.

2K setup: 65" Panasonic VT65, Onkyo TX-SR608 7.2, Oppo BDP-103 Region-Free, Jamo E850 fronts, E8CEN centre, E800 surrounds and rear surrounds, E8SUB subwoofer, Monster Power HTS-2600, 1TB Mediacentre, 500GB PS4, Cyron RGB LEDs. 50" VT30 and 40GB fat PS3 in the lounge.

4K setup to follow...

That would depend on your TV's capabilities. Check the user manual for your TV.

It's not dumb, not all TVs do this. Mine does tho, which is nice when the 3D conversion is better than the 2D transfer, such as with Jurassic Park, Beauty and the Beast, and the Wizard of Oz.

I would've thought that most, if not all, 3D TVs have a manual on/off facility. What's more pertinent is whether Josh has a 3D Blu-ray player or not. If yes, then all he'd have to is play the disc and turn off the 3D using the TV's controls. If not, then the player probably won't play the disc at all.

TY guys, i figured it out, just start with the 3d settings on, then wgen the movie starts turn them all off, and it looks way different from the 2011 BR, i like that one better.

I've a 3D player, but only a 2D TV, it won't let me do this. Hopefully, my next 2D TV will let me...

Why would it? The disc is sending signals to all the devices in the chain to make sure that they're 3D compatible. A 3D player with a 2D TV (even a new one! ) will still get you nowhere with these 'locked' 3D discs.
