There are certain types of film I prefer, and I will consider higher price points for genres that I think have a higher probability of entertaining me.
Movies which I've actually anticipated: I pay full price and don't really care. These are typically live-action non-family-oriented films (Prometheus, Avengers/Marvel), pop music concerts (Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry), well-told full length documentaries (Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Pina). Wreck-It Ralph will be the first animated release that will fall into this grouping when it's released (and the future Little Mermaid 3D conversion will as well... and if someone ever bothers doing Beowulf). These comprise the majority of my collection. Otherwise: Live action films and full-length documentaries: consider at < $30, auto-buy at < $15. Classics and converted catalogue titles: consider < $25, auto-buy < $10. Animation: consider < $20, auto-buy < $10. IMAX and other short-form documentaries: consider < $15, auto-buy < $8 or so.
Formats currently playable in media set-up: Blu Ray 3D, Blu Ray, DVD, Video CD, Laserdisc, Laseractive, CD Video, CED, VHD, 3D VHD, Betamax, CD, CD+G, audio cassette, vinyl, Atari 2600, Commodore 64/128. No VHS!

For must-have movies, release week 24.99$ is a good price for blu ray 3D.
For all other 3D titles of interest, $20 or less is usually enough to draw me in. It has to be something I'd want to watch though more than once, hopefully. Good poll. Now hopefully the 3D distributors will continue to keep this in mind as they have been this year. |

When it was weeks and weeks between releases, I pretty much picked up everything, the day it came out. But after Brave and Arthur Christmas (I really disliked both movies), I've become more patient. I still haven't got Paranorman yet because the price and I waited for MIB 3 and its down to 19.99 now.

Generally wait for them to reach the $14.99 mark, unless it's a Disney 3D movie, those buggers rarely go below $19.99 on Amazon (where I shop), so for those, that's the sweet spot =P

I usually wait for the $15 price point since it's becoming more common, but if I really like the movie and I'm impatient to own it, I'm willing to pay $20-25. Just rarely now.

For the last couple years, I have regularly picked up 3D titles for 24.99 on Amazon on release day + another 1.50 off from my Gold Box (whenever a 3D preorder appears there). Or I'll clip a coupon or whatever is available
I won't usually go above $25 for a 3D title and I don't even like to pay that much when it's it's only a 1 or 2 disc release. The 3D + DVD only ones are the worst. I want more bang for my buck, which is why the Disney, etc. 3-5 disc combo packs appeal to me This Black Friday was really the first time all the big 3D releases were priced at 14.99 en masse. Kind of makes me wish I had waited on a lot of titles that I have paid more for on release day (most of which I still haven't watched and could have waited on). I like the sales we've had lately but the holidays are almost over. You guys who are new to collecting 3D titles are spoiled as of late - just don't expect it to last (but let's hope it does lol) |

$20-$25 is a sweet spot but being from australia they seem to sting us at least 25% more for new release titles thats why i have a region free player and source almost all of my material from overseas. Just the other day i saw john hancock in jb for $44.95 along with captain america!
