That's to be expected since it's a Warner release.

The BD looks correct to me. For instance, look at the left arm of the throne (directly behind the base of Skeletor's staff)... In the DVD this area looks washed out and overly lit. Considering the major light source is He-Man's sword... now compare it to the blu-ray... the black levels have been corrected according to the sword's light. Another point of reference - look at the shadows in between He-Man's thighs (OoOo!). It looks right to me, but then what do I know?
Yes, black levels are significantly better on the Blu-ray and there has been major color-correction as well. There are no contrast issues on this one whatsoever (at least in my opinion), and I personally consider it near-reference (if not reference) quality for this film. I would challenge anyone who disagrees with me (and who has both the DVD and Blu) to watch both at the same time and just compare the colors...one aspect that stood out to me was that of Evil-Lyn. Just compare scenes with her on the DVD to those of the Blu-ray. On the DVD, her "white" complexion often comes off as more "cream" and sometimes "pink" colored, when it's supposed to be pale "white."

Nor does the DVD shot of muddy/gray (almost "brown" looking) Skeletor . I can't deny that there are some shots of the Blu that exhibit a slight green cast to them, but the fact of the matter is that colors have been nicely corrected on this release (even if not 100% perfect in every instance).

Agreed. This is clearly correction in my opinion, and I share the opinion that the light should be reflecting equally off of the entire shaft of the sword (as in the Blu-ray), and not just off the upper part of it. As to whether or not it appeared one way or another in the theater, I cannot recall. It's a very fast moment, and I do remember the theatrical experience being very bright, but so are the DVD and Blu-ray (with just that one brief moment differentiating between the two). Also, it's almost the exact same thing in the comparison where the characters are teleporting back to Grayskull at the end of the film. The Blu-ray looks like a giant flash (like the characters have gone through the warp), and on the DVD you can still see them (which I don't believe you're supposed to at that particular moment):

DVD

Blu-ray
http://voltarchive.animation-web.com.../motu18-bd.jpg

Anyway, I have spoken extensively with SGB regarding the matter, and He's entitled to his opinion just as everyone else is. While I personally believe the Blu-ray is a big upgrade from the DVD, I must also admit that the DVD looks very good in its own right. Overall, the difference between the two releases isn't really even worth getting into an argument over...to each their own .

^Oh definitely... to each their own. For me the blu-ray is an improvement... maybe not a vast one, but a worthy one.

I don't know if you intentionally mis-spelled bona fide, but the word you did use is even better!

It'll be interesting to see if it'll be the same transfer as the Warner Blu...are there any bonus features (new or old) mentioned anywhere?

Picked up the Aussie MOTU blu today. It has the same transfer as the Warner blu, and has the same extra features as well. I think even the menu was the same but I'll need to re-check the Warner disc to be sure.

And like the Warner release, it's region-free despite the back cover stating it's Region B.

German edition from ALIVE available on October 23
http://www.amazon.de/Masters-Univers...f+the+universe

Any chance it might be a different transfer and color (de)grading than Warner Bros's?

I'm not paying the money to find out, when there's eff all wrong with the Warner transfer, IMO.

"It doesn't look like the DVD!"

If anyone can pick any shot here...
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=513
...and say it looks 'wrong', I say hogwash.

really like this movie for some reason and I was very happy to see that my local library had the blu ray of it. I thought the PQ was a substantial upgrade from the dvd

The definition was okay but the color correction was completely off. That said my 16mm print seems a little more greenish than the DVD as well (but couldn't project it to verify it all).

Based on these DVD/BD comparison captures below and what Goddard told me (that Skeletor wasn't "green" after the theatrical print color timing)... and it's obvious, this fluorescent green is ridiculous and doesn't make sense.

Am starting to feel a little vindicated in my criticisms of the blu's colour timing.

The new German Blu-ray edition (out 10/23) had the good idea to add the French theatrical artwork as the reverse cover.
The disc also includes a lobby cards and poster gallery added to the usual audio commentary and theatrical trailer.

Very Nice, to bad the US didn't offer that. On a related note, the film is on sale currently at Best Buy for $9.99.
Wanted To Buy:
-Disney's Treasure Planet Slip Cover
-Disney's Tangled 3D Lenticular Slip Cover
