Exactly. It's not just Steelbooks, either. I personally rather enjoy selling something like this, to fund something else within the same bracket of home entertainment.

I know people who already have the steelbook are ecstatic when it sells for insane prices. I don't know why it's cool to ask for like a 300% markup just because someone else got a lot of money for it on eBay.

Because steelbook is called "collectible" and the same apply to stamps, die cast airplanes, coins, money, etc....

I understand its a collectible and what I'm saying can be applied to all those things you say. I know I'm not going to win this argument because these high prices make people feel good at night but these markups are crazy.

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If someone wants to spend upwards of $500 on a Blu-ray, let them.

I don't have one, but believe me, if I did I'd be selling it right now if I could get some serious money out of it (assuming I'd paid retail price). The Play.com version will do me as I hate the blue banner and half a face design of the FS one (I did swap out the inside to make it 3 discs though).

I know people are allowed to pay what they want but if it continues to be high you see BIN of 300 for a movie that cost 24 dollars retail. I see your second paragraph demonstrates what I'm talking about.

Capitalism is about supply & demand and free enterprise. I hate that its going to cost me $500 to get the Marvel steelbooks that I want, but nobody is forcing me to buy them. If steelbook collecting as we know it disappeared, then those same steelbooks that we are paying $100 for would suddenly cost no more than retail price. Its the same with absolutely every single consumer good in the world. Supply affects demand and vice versa.
Theater: Epson 6500UB, EliteScreen 120" High Gain, Onkyo TX-NR809, (3) AudioSource Amp One/A, Oppo BDP-93, Toshiba A-35 HD-DVD, MonsterPower HTS-5100MKII, (2) Elemental Designs A2-300, Polk Audio RTi12 Towers, CSiA6 Center, FXiA6 Surrounds, Rti6 Rear Surrounds

Yes I understand supply and demand but that is only applicable when someone puts up a steelbook for a lower price and then a bidding war happens and the winner pays the highest amount. It's not the same when people have a huge 300% BIN markup. Once again I understand I'm probably on the wrong forum because it seems like people are cheering for these high valuations. I get it that you want something unique and something sought after because it makes collecting these steelbooks fun.

Well here's my reasons for why I think this steelbook is very special:

- It was one of the first blu-ray steelbooks to come from Canada (national pride)
- It's very limited, and came out when blu-rays were still a new thing.
- It has never been reprinted, nor has another country come out with the same cover.
- The artwork looks amazing (my humble opinion). Love the colours, the pictures, the embossing, etc.
-Also, it was the first movie to set the road for what we now call the "Marvel Cinematic Universe".

With no end in sight for the upcoming Marvel movies, this one plays a key role and it's like issue #1 [No offense, but I look at the Play.com ones as "reprints" with different cover art]. Not only that, but the film holds up extremely well.

If we live in a world where digital format will take over, and physical content is a thing of the past. There are those who grew up with these movies who are going to want a pretty nice copy of their favourite movie.

Look at 'Amazing Fantasy #15' which originally sold for $0.12. Recently, a mint copy went for $1,100,000.00. I'm not saying that this steelbook is going to be worth a million dollars, but... You never know.
