These "meet the Bond girl" things before every movie always crack me up. "My character is very intelligent and strong," "her character is not your typical Bond girl," "we wanted to give Bond someone who could be his match." It's only ever been true a handful of times.

I want this film to be awesome, hehe. It needs a great score this time. The Zimmer-type effort from last time won't do.

How was Skyfall's score Zimmer-esque? There wasn't any oppressive amount of bass or foghorns or percussion. It's one of my favorite Bond scores, can't wait to hear what Newman has come up with for Spectre.

I didn't think Skyfall's score was Zimmer-esque, just the most anonymous and forgettable in the series. The one time the Bond theme did play, Newman used Arnold's arrangement from Casino Royale instead of putting his own mark on it.

Yeah lack of the Bond theme is my one minor complaint against it, but we got little flourishes of it every now and then (opening sequence, cavalry saving Bond from Silva's island, etc.). It's a damn good score in just about every other regard, though. I do hope we get more of the theme this time around, especially since by now he should, you know, finally BE James Bond.

I assumed this would happen after the final scene of Casino Royale but so far, nope. I wouldn't get your hopes up of it happening while Craig is still in the role.

Zimmer-esque was probably a bit strong, but this screamed Nolan's Batman to me:

The rest just didn't feel like Bond at all. Granted, there were some great tracks, but nothing I'd come to expect from a Bond film, possibly excluding the decent Severine riff. I like Newman though.

That sounds like a mix of Zimmer's Dark Knight and Elfman's Batman score to me.

You're right, there's a clear Zimmer influence in the first 50ish seconds of the song as Bond holds onto the elevator. After that, once it quiets down as Bond stalks Patrice, it settles into a Bond groove. You even hear riffs of the theme in the piano.

Highlights of this soundtrack for me are: Grand Bazaar Istanbul, New Digs, Shanghai Drive, Modigliani, Quartermaster, Komodo Dragon, Enquiry (which also has some slight Zimmer influence in the strings), Breadcrumbs (obviously), and The Moors. It might not be a traditional Bond score in the Barry/Arnold sense, but I found that kinda refreshing. Casino Royale may have been a better score in the context of the movie but I think Skyfall overall is the strongest yet of the Craig scores.

Talking about the music makes me wonder when we will know who did the theme song and get to hear it.

Usually October I think if the film's being released in November.

I wonder if the few notes from the OHMSS theme used in the latest Spectre trailer is any indication there'll be more from that score in the full film? I'm guessing not, but I'd like to think they might go for a traditional Bond score with the trumpets and the horns, hehe.

Casino Royale is the best score since John Barry's The Living Daylights score. It perfectly captures the Barry/Bond style and adds to much to the film.

So apparently Sam Mendes is saying SPECTRE is Bond's origin story...

Casino Royale's score is great but I just can't listen to it on its own, the lack of the Bond theme makes that impossible. Having said that, Arnold's version of the theme at the end (which was reused in Skyfall) might be my favorite rendition of it.

I dunno, there were quite a few forgettable atmospheric tracks, particularly during the actual casino sequence.

Oh for ****'s sake. After THREE movies of Bond Begins (when it only should have been ONE), we now have a FOURTH go-round with that arc? I can't wait until Craig leaves the role and hopefully we get back to making actual Bond films.

yeah this is the first bit of not-so-great news I've read about this movie, apart from the stuff about script issues durin the Sony leak but I stayed away from all that.

Really? Regardless of what anyone tries to say about this or any of the other Craig movies being Bond's "origin story", the truth is the Craig era movies will end up being remembered collectively as Bond's origin story.

If you look at them honestly in terms of their story(ies), without judging them or critiquing them in anyway, simply take the story at face value, then that is truly what they are, they are an attempt at showing what made Bond who he is, both personally and professionally.
