Tbh, how many of the people you know outside of 'real life' physical interactions would you really want or need to interact more with?

There's probably a handful of people on my entire list that i'd love to stay in contact with outside the PSN and my PSN list is full .

Outside of gaming, I honestly don't feel the need, because I value those people who I typically see day to day in my life a bit more, because you have a deeper connection, but I can say that after years of talking on PSN to those handful, i'd love to meet them some day in person

I have about 15-25 friends and family members that are on my friends list. I have only seen maybe 3 of them in the last year. I grew up and was born in California. I moved to Nebraska a few years ago so I really dont see any of them. I have Brothers stationed in Virginia and San Diego. I play with a lot of my old high school friends. I actually used the current kinect to talk to my god children (now I use facetime). Just the other night there was about 15 of us together playing COD. I know I'm probably the minority, but yeah I use it.

I suppose though for you as mentioned its different because you know those people, where as if like me, the majority met these 'friends' online and never in real life no matter whether there was a huge or small distance between them.

Still, I just think tech devices are just trying to do way too many things these days.

I have a quick question, that I assume will be opinion at this point, but maybe someone will know.

With the PS3 it had the power switch on the back, this was amazing, I loved it! With my new slim they removed the power switch which sucks!

I have my PS3 and HDTV connected to a power switch and when I'm asleep or away I flip all power off to the plugs so save money, and I don't really want them vampiring power all night/day.

With that said, if I power off the PS3 slim and then kill the power switch immediately it effs up the PS3, like it was just unplugged without being powered off correctly... So I have to wait like 3 minutes after turning it off to flip the switch.

So my question is, how is this going to work with the PS4? It's supposed to be more "always on" than the PS3, so I'm hoping this same set-up still works. If not i'll have to connect the PS4 directly into the outlet and leave the HDTV on the power switch...

Maybe there's no answer yet, I'm just wondering out loud.

Why?

I appreciate it since I've hit the remote by accident many a time and heard the telltale beep warning me I've switched it on.

hah yeah! I keep my Blu-Ray remote lying around and all it takes is something to brush against it and BEEP! I like the beep since I then know to go over and turn it off.

agreed. I cant tell you the number of times Ive accidentally turned it on and the beep is what informed me. It would suck if I turned it on and left the house for the day, letting that thing run all day long (or worse go on vacation)

Has any information come out about online play and playing backwards with PS3?

The rumour is that hardware BC won't be supported for obvious reasons, BUT in the future, it may be possible to use Gaikai to basically stream the entire PlayStation back catalogue from all previous consoles on the PS4. That would certainly be the best possible situation for BC going forwards if true.

The problem is that they're still sorting technical issues out in making that a reality and uploading the entire back catalogue requires help from publishing partners etc. to make new agreements, so most likely we'll see Sony lead the way with as many first party titles as possible.

Then the only issue will be, if I can prove I own Uncharted 2, as an example. How much will it cost me to get it through Gaikai.

I think you're confusing Sony with MS who'd want you to buy a physical copy and if used, pay for an activation fee and THEN you pay for Xbox Live AND the streaming service!.

Sony will likely keep the PSN free, so the only thing you should need is PS+. Once the membership runs out, much like the games you downloaded for free, you no longer are allowed to play them, but the key difference being that PS+ applied to Gaikai would basically mean unlimited game streaming for PlayStaion catalogue titles.

I have a feeling however that Sony could and rightly should levy a small fee of $5-10 per month for such a feature. Simply because it does fall a little outside the scope of PS+ for what it offers and it cost them $400 million (I think) to buy Gaikai, so they need to get a return on that over the course of PS4 and 5.
